This is an interesting bit of info:

SOURCE:http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/51941
[blockquote]While Valve had discussed an Overhealer gun that would double a target's health, the studio is currently testing a Medic gun that, once charged, will guarantee targets ten seconds of continuous critical hits.

Valve previously explained that the unlockable items would be equipped via a new loadout menu, suggesting that gamers will not be able to easily swap between the new tools in the midst of battle.[/blockquote]

Apologies if this has been posted. (I searched but didn't see it.)

Ive seen that a few times in the official TF2 forums. Seems like an interesting idea. Personally, I'm for anything that encourages offense.

I wonder if you can have one medic ubering while another doing the crit thing. Hopefully it will give some new wrinkles for he medic and offense in general.

Yeh, I think Valve's plan is to eventually have unlock weapons of similar nature for every class, but it seems like it will take quite awhile to get there. Nobody knows when that medigun will show up ^^

I'm sorry, that just doesn't sound like any kind of good idea.

Can you imagine 10 seconds of guaranteed pyro crit?

10 Guaranteed Seconds of a demoman crits, or a soldier, you hated them with a normal luck crit, but now with 100% crit? Oh god.

Yep. It's nutso, although if the Pyro isn't being healed at the same time, then they're not as big a threat. My fear is the ubered super-crit Heavy/Pyro/Soldier.

Imagine 2 medics, one with the uber, another with the perfect crits, say goodbye to dustbowl defences.

*drools at the thought of 10 secs of soldier crit*

Yay for raining down rocket after rocket of instant death :P. But seriously, I wonder what this will do to balance of the classes. Uber-soldier can be pretty mediocre - it doesn't benefit the soldier all that much due to 4 shot clip of the rocket launcher and the fact that he can do damage at long range anyway. But crit-soldier - that's a whole other story. Crit-demo, I'm not so sure about - he can be easily killed before he gets a lot of stickies down because he normally needs to get closer to his target than a soldier.

Allowing both uber + crit on one person is really what I'd be interested to see in action, to see if it unbalances things.

Unless they release unlock weapons for all the classes at the same time, I believe that this will unbalance the classes. 10 seconds of guaranteed crits will basically destroy any team's core defenses. Maybe there's some tactic that will enable the defense to overcome it, but it doesn't seem likely when only the medic has an unlocked weapon.

the only class I think it's really really good on is the heavy because their damage scales so much better with crits than most classes (and with an "unlimited" clip size...).

Crit shots don't have range damage penalties like other shots, so the heavies will be able to wreck stuff from more than just right next to them.

Word is that they're going to come out one at a time, Medic being first.

This is gonna destroy the game until they're all out. Medic, maybe not so much, lots of folk (myself included) just can't play medic and whatever unlocks they get will likely be useless without other team members. But can you imagine when the next class is released? If it's any of the true combat classes, it'll shift the game. We'll have teams made up of half of that class and other classes won't stand a chance.

Blegh.

Edit: And it's going to be a sad day for spies when the pyro gets his unlocks, teams with pyro being the dominant class? Yuck. Why bother?

10 second crit isn't as overpowered as it looks, being as how they won't be invincible
if anything it just puts a bigger bullseye on the medics chest

Actually, it will give us an opportunity to become familiar with classes we haven't played before. Just a thought. Now, if the whole team is medics, and we're running around ubering each other and getting crits with the needle gun, I'm sure Valve will understand there's a problem.

Hey, Flippy, um, *cough *Front page article *cough*

I don't think I really care what they do, as long as the game stays balanced. That for me is the biggest issue, but I always enjoy little tweaks and stuff, hopefully this will work out well.

Id be perfectly happy with a medic using the overhealer on me as an engie as I am running in with my wrench, who needs soldiers/demos/heavys/pyros, jeez.

This would make the enemy team really want to gun down those medics even more. Already players have to consider how many medics the enemy team has and how that affects ubering. With 10 secs of continuous crit, this becomes even more urgent.

It sounds really cool but it would unbalance the game. Defending would be near to impossible against a team with a few medics.

Well I am getting little bored of TF2 and new update will be very handy for me.

There is one thing:

Valve previously explained that the unlockable items would be equipped via a new loadout menu, suggesting that gamers will not be able to easily swap between the new tools in the midst of battle.

Yeah, medics will have couple unlockables but you have to stick to one in one game so it's better.

And about crit gun. Engineer's sentry guns have an "immune" against critical shot. Crit mades same damage as normal shot to sg. So it's ok I think.

And Valve is team is really smart so they don't mess up game. Trust me :)
