Hopped into 60 Hz yesterday and while the server was full, it was extremely laggy. Lots of players that were on that server were complaining about it, and checking the chat logs, it's been a frequent issue. I ran an MTR on this while it was empty, and while colocrossing has ICMP limited to the gateway, The worst packet that I saw was 119 ms. On average, it was around 40 ms from MI to ATL, before entering the colocation:

Last Avg Best Wrst
48.8 41.7 36.8 119.4

Keep in mind, this is not me filling up the server with echo requests, a simple ping. what concerns me is the slight jump on the gateway into the colocation when the server should be "idle".

I'm going to perform the same test on this when the server is full, but what I'm thinking, the excessive lag might be due to the server being full and the machine just not having the horsepower to support this? It would probably be a good idea to have someone check the network/cpu/what have you/ utilization when this server is at 64 players and see that the server is optimized to handle the bandwidth/processing constraints that it should. It's very possible that we don't see this when we have ~20 eGO members on horsing around, simply because we have not crossed some sort of threshold.

I have already voiced my opioin in Dropbox regarding the server lag, I do not know how long it's going to take leadership to remedy this issue. I have suggested to drop player slots to 48 to possible improve performance. Longer we have the server in a state like this the harder it will be for us fill this server, as tuna stated players are complaining about lag, and nobody wants to play in server that lags.

After the last episode where I dropboxed something, I decided to not dropbox anything further. Also, I feel that posting on this on the forums could get others involved to tossing around ideas. Temporarily dropping this to 48 players (I think you might be able to go between 48 and 64, not sure.) might be a viable test to see if that alleviates the lag. To be honest, it was something I thought about suggesting. If anything, that would free up the additional slots requires for spectating. It could be as simple as an over-subscription on that server blade. However, an important step in troubleshooting this is to see what the server itself is doing when the server is full (or at least when this is near capacity).

Yeah I see your point, the reason why I suggested 48 is because there is another server that is 60hz vanilla and dlc rotation and their rank is just under 100, do get that rank and keeping the server full 80% of time they doing something right.

Maybe I am a part of the issue with my high ping (150ms)? Maybe try it with a ping limit to see if the issue goes away?

Doubt that is the issue. I'm thinking reporting should be able to be pulled historically on this server and see what it was doing around the 8pm ET yesterday. that can provide answers. Perhaps one of the higher ups can do that.

Hello Guys,

First i want to say thank you for posting the concerns and we are looking over them. The 60 hz server is very new so the ranking and following is going to be low until it becomes more recognized. Still not sure if it being 60hz and 64 is causing issues. We would need a good steady run at full to see the issues. Many servers in the past week have been hit hard by worldwide ddos attacks and that is primarily the reason for the lag and ping issues. One day the 60hz was directly hit and taken down. The hosting providers are providing all they can to remedy the issues of those ddos attack even though some are hard to control. If there is an issue with the data center for the 60hz then we could always transfer it to another location but the downside is changing its IP to do so. As for the lag last night i was aware and restarted the servers this morning.

Can you pull the history on the server as far as overall blade utilization and see what it was doing? That would give you information.

Hello Guys,

The server lag is nothing new this has been happening for past 2 weeks. Whenever the there is large map with vehicles and the server is full you will ALWAYS get server rubber-banding icon on the right side corner. The list of maps that I noticed that had this issue firestorm, Caspian, dragon valley wavebreaker, Operation mortar. The reason I didn't bring it up sooner is the server was relative new and you guys were testing out the rotation.

Firestorm has a lot of detail and the fire and smoke cause a bit of the issues, never seen much issues with caspian unless due to forest detailing or when the tower comes down maybe, wavebreaker and op mortar are water maps and sometimes lag along with heavy detail, and dragon valley has tons of detail which could cause lag. When players have reported lag i have watched the server pings and sometimes they spike while other times the pings remain normal even though that player is reporting lag. depends on ping, location, company that internet is though, how many connections, what type of connection, and many other factors.

It could be due to people not meeting the recommended system requirements of Battlefield 4.

The lag I'm referring to is when you orange icon on right, infantry play it maybe not that noticeable, however at times you to get killed instantly without much of hit notification. Arial combat is whole another story your mini map doesn't show the correct orientation of all vehicles just ask espionage and crowley. I don't when you have played caspian border to not notice it lag at all, however everytime me,Crowley, espionage we constantly get lag indication on right regardless if tower is up or down. Again I would like to see leadership either get a better server or reduce number of player slots rather than getting rid of good maps, just to for sake of having 64 player 60hz server.

It could be due to people not meeting the recommended system requirements of Battlefield 4.
bandwidth wise maybe, but I don't think that the issue here.

You are correct, but then you have to look at the common factor, which is thse peopl connect to that server. And no one is going to play on a server that bands/lags consistently when it's filled. Looking at pings when the server is lagging is not going to be enough, there's going to be processing utilizaztion as well as overall bandwidth throughput.

On the present host, I'm almost certain that you will see a big difference between 64 players at 60 Hz and <64 players at 60 Hz. If the server is dropped to 48 slots, and everything goes swimgly, then the server can handle that. It's obvious that the server can't handle what it has now. Was the server specifications that were ordered compared to the server specifications that EA/DICE recommends for 60 Hz?

Hello there mate..

Ok so I wanna first start by congratulating the eGO clan on taking position and getting a 60hz server that really does make a huge difference for a realistic pleasant experience.. we pay good amount of money for our rig and pass lot of time tweaking it to squeeze the best performance out of it..so let's not just stop there.. Ok so i've been looking over the server for the past few day what i came up with is that it was server performance icon lighting up (Server Computation of the Information it Receive and Send is not happening Fast Enough).. what I could notice was some amazingly high pingers on the servers, there was like 3-4 client with ping fluctuation from 350 and even up to 420ms ping which cause server having to try to smooth the thing up for everyone thereby requiring more computing power.. so software wise that could be attenuated by setting a ping limiter plugin.. more that *** ping for more than ** seconds and it kicks.. there's no reason for people that manage their connection effectively to be affected by people who just do a million thing on their connections while gaming.. let's be serious what do you have to do to get a 250ms ping.. the netcode for that game was greatly improved recently but we got to kick it up a notch on those tweaking.. No server can do magic with such high pingers.. here's my 2 cents..

And there's some really interesting info video i just found regarding how server operate..

Lagging bad tonight. Every other player saying F this server.
Pings were pretty decent, only couple players at 250, couple others at 150...

Map at the time was Caspain Border....

Lost Islands 52 minutes ago was getting the same behavior Slash mentioned in the above post

Yeah, this server will lag and will continue to lag until those in control want to research the issue.

I have the answer to the question....Agent is behind it all!!! And village...be careful they flog people for calling us a "clan". Anyways, it usually doesn't lag that bad until we get to like 52 or so people in the server.

I would like to say that I have played on the 60hz server on nearly every map that is on the rotation. It seems as if none of the maps in general cause the lag because when we start the server up, despite the map, it never lags with a low number of players. Never. However, once the server fills to 50ish players and up it is all but unbearable. The vehicles jump across the map, the icons spin and the gameplay is horrific. To be clear, I have 32 gigs of ram and 12 gigs of vram with my 2 980ti's running sli accompanied by the latest and greatest in the tech world. My fps hovers 200 no matter my settings or map. The 60 hz in general seems to be causing the problem. When do we ever lag on Metro or pop maps or any of the other servers we have? It seems as if the 60hz is the undeniable variable to this frustrating situation. Besides, if I am to be honest, what is the true benefit of playing 60 hz anyways? I can honestly say I see no advantages or improvements in gameplay going from 30 to 60 hz (this statement is based on the rare lag-free gameplay I have experienced in the 60hz server). I would also state that there are several of us commoners in room 5 of ts who have had this same discussion on countless occasions. Would it not be sufficient to simply have a 30hz server with the same rotation?

Hello guys,

We are in discussion to reduce the players to 48 and allow 2 spectator spots. Anyone that is having issues and major lag spikes please let us know the time and map along with a general what happened - did only you freeze was it others did the server crashed etc etc
