That is AWESOME!

I was laughing up until "if (still_not_crashed)". Then I was rolling.

That reminds me of the early builds of Windows XP, before they even had a name for it. All of the XP graphics (like on the login screen, etc.) still said Windows 2000. It was only about a month before release that the Microsoft marketing goons decided on "XP" and the OS was spruced up with shiny graphics.

Somewhere, I still have the beta CD the MS guys gave us. It's pretty funny how broken it was.

I get friends and relatives who ask me for help getting them a new machine with XP on it on occasion. The other day my uncle's PC that was pretty high end in 1998 when I built it for him, finally died. He wants a new machine and asked me about building him one with...get this... Windows 98SE! I asked him why on earth would he want that? His response was, "Well I had heard that XP uses a lot of resources and doesn't work with all hardware and programs." He heard that from late 2001-early 2002 when it was true and decided then and there that he would NEVER use XP.

My dad bought a pre-built pc a few months ago which came included with Vista installed (a Best Buy rig). A month later, he calls me and says, "I hate Vista, can you put xp on it?"

I did it... but WHAT A NIGHTMARE! UGH!

I love how they commented out the "Welcome to..." for previous versions of Windows. Oh, and the sco_unix.h is a nice little inside joke for those of us who keep up with news in the computer world. :)

Jubei, did you tell your uncle that the "...doesn't work with all hardware and programs..." should be applied to XP these days? If he really wants to go that direction, maybe you should suggest Win 3.1 for maximum incompatibility.

Taking bets on actual validity, odds are 2:1, any offers? According to our user feedback, there IS a high probability that this is the real deal folks! Hurry, polls close in an hour! Hold on, brb my comp just crashed and I can't put these bets into Microsoft Excel. Vista asked me if I was O.K. with opening the program and it shut down when I hit "Yes". This may take awhile folks, hang on to your bets we will be up and running shortly!

Why do people hate Vista so much. I have it and I think its good but its not bad.

does this mean i should switch back to XP? seriously.. im scared...

Gt.Ghost, when it goes right, people like it. Unfortunately, when it goes wrong it goes horribly wrong. I spent last evening fixing the Windows Mobile Device Center for a friend on a brand spanking new laptop. Gah. And it was hard to find. Much harder than fixing problems with ActiveSync (in XP).
