Am I the only one who thinks a badlands server would be awesome? I personally think it's one of the better maps; a good alternative to the "smaller" ones like 2-fort and dustbowl. Tell me what you guys think; maybe if there's enough voice something could get done about it. But for now....your thoughts. Thanks!

Been there, done that. Had one and it failed. The consensus was that valve ruined the original Badlands.

There is a TF2 version of the old badlands, but I don't know how good it is to be honest.

It's been tried. For now I'd recommend Don't advertise server ip's if you want to play badlands. 32 man decreased (but sane) spawn times. Like eGO it covers a wide spectrum of players (I've seen a few members on there in fact) and like most servers the players are decent in character. Very popular, very fun.

I'd hardly say it failed... you just can't expect it to stay as busy as 2fort, Dustbowl, or Warpath. I'd say by looking at the last thread devoted to the subject, you'd notice a vast majority in those wishing it'd come back, let alone the posts by those who feel 'very strongly' about it.

Personally, the Badlands server is what brought me to the eGO servers -- the day badlands was released, I just went on and found what seemded to be the best round going on. Now that it's gone, though, I feel the urge to play elsewhere just for some Badlands...

As far as personal opinions go, I don't understand the need to host convoy or sunsettown if your worried about server activity or subpar maps.... neither have ever been as busy -- or as fun -- as the old Badlands server was.

It doesn't really fail, it just doesn't have anything to make it stand out.

But I think I'm beating a dead horse.

i agree badlands was good and now adays sunset town is no were near as full or gd as gd old badlands

I used to play all the time on the eGO Badlands server. I don't think it failed. It was like most of the other servers, it just took a little time to fill up. Once it was full though it would stay full for most of the night. I know there are some people that hate it, and there are those that love it. I love that map and miss it terribly.

Let me try my best to clearly elaborate on my bud, mop.

When Badlands first came up, it was a pretty popular map, because people wanted to try it out and everything. Of course, within a day, someone ruined the game quickly finding an exploit in which ruined it for others.

Also, considering the fact that there a large amount of stalemates, they draw a few people away from the map within a few rounds. It was also one of our slowest maps to populate early in the day. Dustbowl, Warpath, and 2fort never have problems trying to get people in, but as you see, Badlands never sparked that much interest.

From the server population standpoint of things, Badlands is and was the worst server that we had. It took me 3+ hours one day to fill that sucker up. This was a constant hassle. Sunsettown is easier to fill up than badlands. Convoy also has a following, and is easier to fill up. Dont get me wrong, these arent as popular as our "bread and butter servers" but they are easier to populate than badlands.

I really wish I was good with Hammer. I'd almost take this as a challenge to create a really addicting map on the level of Convoy or Warpath.

What? The ban-hammer doesn't count? Who's responsible for that? I want names! NAMES DAMMIT!

if getting badlands means getting ride of convoy, count me out and forget i ever started this thread! haha thats easily my favorite level

Badlands also seemed to attract a lot of griefers. We'll have a dedicated Goldrush server when that comes out, I believe.

Badlands is OK, but I loved the original map in TFC. I don't think the original would play well on TF2 since the game has changed so much. I also like hydro, but its very difficult to win that with 32 people so I can see why that map is gone.

Badlands, after about a day of being up, was a wasteland of nothingness half the time. Sunset and convoy actually stay pretty full usually.

Valve ruined Badlands.

I concur. The original was one of my favorites. Back when I used to play way more than I do now and was way more accurate with the sniper rifle, I used to dominate on that level. On one particular day, I managed to get on a server with some great team players, and with the assistance of a medic who would come around to heal me every so often, an engineer who would come around to build up my armor every so often, and numerous players who would drop ammo for me, I managed to hold the bridge as a sniper for a good half hour or so. I wish I still had my old TFC screenshots, as that was a heck of a game for me. :)
