I'm not quite sure if there is already a thread on this, but I would like to know how you all choose your steam username. I would like to hear the story behind your name and why you chose it.

Welp, here's mine, not that you like to know it, but.......: So the only reason I got Steam originally is because of a game called Broforce. I wanted to get it on steam so it would save my progress. I remember a cool guy named "Soup Calhon" he was a great level maker and could always get the best time on a challenging level. I couldn't decide on a name when, BOOM my mind exploded! I loved Belugas (duh) and "Soup Calhon" was my favorite person I saw playing Broforce, so in the end I am the one, the only, BELUGA_SOUP.

Now lets hear your story

I'm called Beagle cuz Beagles are awesome and i love them. (who doesn't love them)

Fozzie Bear is amazing, and -- since I'm pretty quiet -- I felt that I needed a name that stood out. Hence, WAKKA WAKKA WAKKA!!! was born.

Many years ago, in a land far away but not too far, lived a young girl. This girl loved doing everything her older brother did. Her brother started playing video games, she began playing video games. Her brother moved from the N64 to the computer, she moved from the N64 to the computer. Her brother talked with friends at school about video games, she, well she stood in the group and listened. A game called "America's Army" came out and the siblings played. Not together as the dial-up internet couldn't handle that, but the brother played and the sister watched. Then when the brother was at work the sister began to play the game, slowly she played and eventually got better. Her name reflected the age at which she began, but it was hers. Then one day her brother and his friends jokingly came up with a clan name. This was new to the girl. She had seen such things online, but had never thought that she might get to be a part of one. The clan name was silly, but it was her clan. She wore it proudly and began to make it hers.

Time passed.

The young girl was now a young woman, her brother a man. Video games were still played, but now both siblings had separate computers and they could play together. Christmas came. The girl, still a girl at heart, was excited. Christmas was a time of gifts, but more importantly family. Sitting around opening gifts, now more practical items than in the past. The last gift was an odd one; in the past last gifts were a final fun surprise a whimsical trinket in the midst of practical things. This gift was not that, it was towels. Brand new bath towels. These were greatly appreciated, but not a last gift. Then the girl was grateful, but confused. Then out of respect she hugged the towels and went to say thank you. But as she hugged the towels, she noticed the towels had a lump, a hard rectangle of a lump.... The girl quickly unwrapped the towels; there was a box. A bright orange box with two faces and an outline of a person. Girlish squeals rang through the house. The wrapping paper was cleared away and Portal was installed. The other games were nice, but Portal was what had caused those squeals

The next day her brother suggested they try one of the other games, Team Fortress 2; as it was one they both might like and could play. The girl agreed and they began playing like they had years before, only this time the girl played and the brother watched. Then memories were stirred, they could trade as they had before, but the name used on Steam was the girl's name and it was still, as always, girly. Stillness settled as both siblings began to think... Then the girl had it; the clan tag. They had both played under it; it was not his or hers, it was theirs. Quickly it was typed and the play continued.

Time passed.

The game was played often and the siblings took turns. They found a map and server they liked and stayed, and the name became a part of both of them. As voice chat happened the name became a joke and the fellow players knew that the siblings played as one, switching and taking turns. After several months past, the brother purchased the game as well and the siblings began playing together again.

Time passed.

Other games came and were played for weeks or months at a time. TF2 was only pulled out as a lark. But the girl, now an adult, held the memory of playing TF2 on a little laptop, switching seats with her brother and watching the other play.

And with these memories she kept but one visible token, a name, an old clan tag. -=DUH=-

Great story Duh! Mine is lame, was trying to think of a name at one point it was 2 words starting with psycho, but was too common of a name so the s was replaced with z and there is not as many of it. I also really hade the name Psycho idk why

Great story, DUH! It's really cool to know that there is that much history to your name! As for me, my name was kind of out there. In real life, I am VERY derpy xD as for the monkey? My dad is always calling me monkey and booger, but for obvious reasons, I preferred monkey :) I love how all of you came to your names! It's really neat :D

Congrats, you are now Derpy Booger.

Well, most of my childhood was spent on the Command and Conquer series of RTS games. A mainstay in many of the games was GDI (Global Defense Initiative) vs. NOD (Brotherhood of Nod). NOD was well-known for two things: its leader Kane and its AI characters. CABAL (Computer Assisted Biologically Augmented Lifeform) was a major character, especially early on in the game series, and was a major commander in the campaigns. Later on in the game series, CABAL turned on everyone and acted as a major boss character, using much stronger defenses, soldiers, and vehicles, with the intention of wiping out humans and replacing them with machines.

So, that'd be the story behind the Cabal part of my name... OSTK is just an old clan (One Shot Two Kills) that I was in, that eventually just became part of my name even though I'm no longer active in it.

Interesting stories so far!

Mobilize is a punk rock album from '02 which was one of the first times I experienced music other than underground hip-hop and rap, growing up in a household where the apartment was shaking 24/7. Even though I'm still a huge fan of that kind of music as well, it became a real defining moment in my life, as it led to singing in a lot of different bands, to attending courses for various instruments along with choir practice. For a long time I lived and breathed that mix of punk and rap, but thankfully I've since calmed down a bit, which I'm guessing was either law school or simply maturing

A few years back I met the band behind the album - great guys.

Ho god, I guess it's my turn, yes?

So uh...I have a fascination with making names with weird pronunciations, maybe it's because my IRL name is too common that I wanted my alias that only I will know about, so, moving on~ my 13 y/o self was jotting down names and thought "Shoot, Antraze sounds awesome!" and it kinda stuck with me as an alias ever since.

To think it's been 9 years... Holy poop.

Well, when I was a little kid my parents (namely my dad) would always call me mister, mister punk, mister boy, etc. So when the inevitable time came for my 5 year old self to make a club penguin account, I (with the help of my dad lel) came up with Misterboy500.

The 500 actually has a very long history in my family that I could try to explain for ages but probably wouldn't do it effectively.

Actually 500 just sounded like a cool number. I was 5 okay?

I bought minecraft, sat there for 2 minutes and the first thing that came to mind was "Daa_Punisher." Then BOOM, a new name was born.

Before I went under sgt_carters_kid and that's because my dad use to play under the name "sgt_carter" and I am his son, so yeah.

I joined eGO as slayer190 (named after the rocket launcher from Perfect Dark). Less than a week of joining I got notified that I had to change my name because it was too similar to a leadership member of the time. Back then my real life best friend and I were a duo medic heavy pair on the Blackemesa server. His name was/is Saltychipmunk so I thought it was good to balance it out and go PepperRabbit even though rabbits aren't rodents. The name rolls off the tongue well enough because people are used to saying peter rabbit. That's pretty much it.
