I just donated to the site and now for some reason when I join the eGO server, I have the clan tag in front of my name? Is it part of being a donator that you have to wear it while playing in eGO servers?

You were probably listed as inactive in MAUL. When you logged into the site it set you as active. When you're set as active, MAUL will automatically place your tag in front of your name. If you haven't logged onto the site within 7 days it will set you as inactive and your tag won't show up.

You can remove the tag yes by leaving and awesome community if that's the case do it in your profile settings.

the tag is showing up because you joined eGO back in 2011

You can remove the tag, but I don't see why you would want to join and not wear it
