My buddy was telling me about these cards that are soon to be released. I was thinking about grabbing the 1070 so I could play Doom. I believe he said it was going to be around $375. I currently have the 660ti but it's rated below the minimum required GPU. How hard is it to swap cards? And any ideas where you can sell old cards?

Swapping cards is super easy. Before you install the new card, you'll want to remove the old card's driver software from the computer. Once you do that, just remove the old card, slap the new one in it's place, install the new card'd drivers and boom. I replaced my 760 with a 970 earlier this year...kinda wishing I waited.

I personally would wait a couple months for the 1080 to be tested. The 900 series of GTX cards ran on Maxwell architecture. The new GTX 1000 series will be on the newly developed Pascal architecture. Pascal will indeed be more powerful for sure. Though I have only seen very bare specs so far on the GTX 1000 series. Wonder what the vram will be at. Also, please do not go by nvidia specs until tested by others. Please note about 2 years ago nvidia lying about a specific 900 series card that had lower vram than stated, fan problems, memory leaks, and some bus problems. Turned out to be a good card but did not live up to the specs.

AKA the card I'm using...

also double check that your Power Supply has enough..you know power. Should be fine though since you had a TI on there

I gave someone in eGO my 550ti and they report that it runs Doom fairly well. Though I am not going to berate you for getting a new card, I gave them it because I got a 970

Saving up for the new card, Whenever I start building my new rig i'll putting this one in.
But before is start building is probably next year.
I believe the new cards are up for sale in 4 days here in the netherlands !

I atm use the Msi Twinfrost Gtx 760

Someone was telling me these new cards are supposed to be as good or better than titan?

From what i've read in a article last week is that the gtx 1080 outpreforms 2x a titan x
Not sure what is true of this, but that would be a huge improvement.

Thanks for the info guys! I'll have to check my power supply, good call. Do you think they'll sell them on Amazon? My Sallie Mae credit card gets me 5% back on Amazon purchases.

Interesting.. I'm going to have to research. I have the 970, so I may upgrade if they are reasonably priced by the end of the year.
.
Although my current card seems fine....

I was looking at the 380, but with the huge performance increase, it would be worth spending the extra $100+ to get the 1070, and less power requirements.

I've always bought the top of the line GPU when they are released. Currently I use 2 machines, 1 to game, 1 to game/develop on. I have the 980ti in one machine and the Titan X in another machine. Both machines have identical hardware(cpu, mem, hdd etc). To be honest, any game I have ran on either machine, runs on ultra settings, with excellent FPS. I don't overclock anything, never had the need to thus far. Until I get into a game that requires me to upgrade, I'm sticking with what I have.

Danny! I just stepped up from that card to a 760 :D and........its not a big enough step.... I was planning on saving up for a titan X but was told to wait until the new cards come out. Im looking forward to seeing the power they provide.

Oh wow! Yeah, after news arrived of these new cards I've been waiting for their release. DOD and Chivalry are the only games I really play right now so an OC'd cpu and gpu have been doing me just fine. The new cards should be great, for a time, until they eventually get phased out like my trusty 560gtx2gb :)

WOW. AMD is doing it again

AMD Radeon R9 480 "Polaris 10" 8GB DDR5 price point of $229.

Less than 150W and almost as good as the 1080 card. Hummmm almost as good and 1/3 the price. I think I am leaning hard to AMD new card..................
