i dont know if it is possible, but i would like to be able to speak while dead.

mostly to congratulate that guy that melee'd me like a man when it was just us two.

thoughts??

It's a balance thing.

Particularly as spy, but as any class- if I'm sneaking into a base, I don't want the guy I just killed immediately able to alert his mates. It could mean the difference between crippling the enemy defense and getting met at the gate by a pyro or three.

I have noticed that voice seems to still work after you die. At least, I've heard people reporting what killed them and where, or am I imagining things?

When all talk is on on a server, you can speak from the dead. When it's not, you can't. We often will start a scrim in all talk for fun.

If you REALLY want to immediately talk to a person after he killed you....well, you would have to be an admin. Then you could send a PM. But that's not what admin privileges are for....or are they? :)

Instant respawn or someone who dies and ends up catching a very short respawn timer can usually get back in the game pretty quick and say something like "Watch out for the spy on the battlements!"

Absolutely not. That kind of behavior is unfair to everyone else and is likely to result in unpleasant consequences. (I gather that you were joking, but I want to be clear on this point. :D )

It's a gameplay balance issue. It could certainly have undesirable consequences if all-talk is turned on for the public players to use. I've typed countless "look out! spy here!" etc. comments, but I end up deleting them after a 15 second respawn when it isn't pertinent anymore. It's just like when CS beta (the first time I noticed it) turned off all-talk as it was a hindrance to gameplay and promoted "ghosting".

Well, if I wanna talk a little pleasant smack with a clanmate after he killed me or something I'll just use admin All-chat.

Sometimes i do wish allchat was on in our servers, cuz it'd make being the lone admin on a server much easier. If someone's mic-spamming on the other team, I'd like to know whats going on without having to rely on a random pubby telling me whats going on.
