well its seems everyone is looking forward to the new medic class achievements...IM NOT!!!

if everyone likes the new achievements they will make new ones for every class... i like the game SO much as it is... and achievements are fun...but when you can upgrade your guns when you acomplish a certain number of achievemnts...thats what i dont like because it becomes a RPG game and not a FPS game...people who play a lot get all the good guns and leave us who cant play all the time trying to keep up... the TF2 team has done a excellent job at makeing TF2 a unique game that has its own game play that is new and fresh. there are already so many variables that allow for each charactor to have its own unique strengths and weaknesses. The perpose of this update is, not because the medic needed an update because they messed up on something but to make game play BETTER. there is nothing wrong with makeing game play better but i look at it like this... its like eating cake or pie (since everyone likes pie) they are both good and everyone likes them... but when you eat to much you get sick...in the same way i think (my opinion) that the TF2 developers are trying to make their game TOO good. i hope that makes sense!

Summery:

I think the achievement are good! but not to upgrade your weapons

they should either give the weapons to everyone then you can choose what one you want

OR

have the achievements but no unlockable weapons

You make a lot of sense when considering this. In my opinion, if they are going to backpedal, I'd rather eliminate the unlockable weapons then have everyone be able to access them.

I can see your point and I'm kind of wary of this update possibly turning the game into a grind. On the other hand, the concept has worked ok for other games, like BF2, where you can choose weapon unlocks after reaching points milestones. As long as the unlockable weapons don't give people a huge advantage over the "stock" weapons, it should turn out ok. Even after I unlocked nearly all of the weapons in BF2, I still tended to prefer a lot of the stock weapons like the SVD and AK101.

I guess we'll have to wait and see how things turn out.

Its gear for more of the class crazy people like me MEDIC :O the weapons are better suited if you know what your doing

I'm afraid to say it, but the ubersaw definitely has an advantage over the normal bonesaw. But, the other two weapons have their pros and cons (like not getting crits or getting crits instead of invulnerability).

I think that this update will reward the more hard-core players and give them an advantage. That shouldn't be the point. The weapons shouldn't be unlockable; they should be accessible. Valve should be varying the game play; not taking it to a whole new level. I believe that this new system will open up a whole can of worms and make people focus more on the achievemets/getting good weapons instead of the teamwork. Also, it's not fair that medics that don't want to grind should have a disadvantage.

I'm looking forwards to part of this update.

I've been thinking the same thing. I enjoy playing as a medic, but this update could turn it into a chore. That, and the achievements, if they are as has been announced, either rely on incredible chance or spending hours and hours setting up particular scenarios in order to get the achievement, without furthering the team play. I really hope that those were a red herring given to us by Valve to hide the real new updates...
A new map, on the other hand, sounds AWESOME.

Pedro's got a point, jealousy will settle very quickly when some players have the weapons and some dont. And it is gonna cause some players to remain medics just because they have access to those weapons. Like the crit gun.

You always have those people that feel they have to grind everything and get it as soon as possible.. I think they'll burn out playing solely for these achievements. If/When Sniper achievements are released, yeah I'll be interested and I may play with them in mind, but I won't alter the way I play or how often I play simply to get new toys. If you treat them as a bonus for playing the class you already love, then you'll get them in time while having fun. If you treat it as work, then you're going to not have fun and you'll lose the love of the game.

I think it is a disadvantage 4 the other players who have the normal weapons but really we cant do anything now, sure i would get angered if some guy kills me with the upgraded saw while i still have my stock saw but its not like if we can do anything why dont we just wait and see how it turns out.

That's the problem. I feel ALOT of players are going to treat it as work just to get those achievements.

yes i think most of you get what im saying! but some of you dont

here is what im saying

1. give us the achievements becaus they are fun to try to get them...BUT not to unlock weapons

2. give the new weapons but give them to everybody make it so you choose what gun you want...then you can get the advantage of mabye all crits and no uber or no crits but uber... if everyone can choose this then it evens out the gameplay

CoD4, you have to get to rank 55 to unlock all the weapons. and do achievements to unlock things for them. So the only way to get better is by playing it alot and getting better.

Me, I don't think the unloackable weapons will put others at a disadvantage. The Ubersaw sounds incredibty overpowered but it has a 20% slower hiting speed. That means if you have the normal and your enemy has the uber you get 5 hits for his 1. And for other classes. A med runs at you with the Uber saw when you are, say a soldier. He swings once and you have plenty of time to gun him down before he gets his other strikes in. Plus Melee weapons are sort of hit or miss anyway.

I think it is fun initiative to get people playing. I mean, alot of people usually specialize in a class. Demo, Soldier, etc etc. This is a way to make them explore the other classes.

there would be no point in having achievements if accomplishing them didn't do anything

I'm in complete agreement with your initial post Vote for Pedro. That's been my thinking since day 1 of hearing what Valve was doing.

People are making way too big a deal out of this, none of the medic weapons give an advantage, rather an alternative. Plus valve said they would be releasing new weapons that won't require unlocks so please stop you whining before they can the whole idea and we all have to play with the same stock weapons we've had since release.

[/quote1208746073]I have to say, 360 achievements are QUITE addictive and they don't do anything.

I like the idea of unlockable weapons, it gives you something to play for!!!
