We did have a corp!
Our old staging system was in Saso (Sasoutheuk or something was full name) and about 11 jumps from amarr, 2 jumps from lowsec for ez pvp.
We then went to 0.0 NPC for a bit and once I got hooked on PvP I left for a bigger nullsec alliance. We did have some pretty good roams back in the day, 50man frig wolf packs and such
I have to admit, it was awesome when one of us in leadership put up the batsignal via Twitter and could pull together 30 man fleet in high sec. Not many high sec corps could do that. Heck, that's probably still the case. We had a very high participation rate for a high sec corp, mostly backed up by the fact that so many of us came from within eGO prior to EVE. We already had strong gaming ties outside of just EVE.
In the end, it wasn't any one reason that was the downfall of the division, but really a multitude of reasons. I think the greatest one being that we, as an in-game corp, always had a hard time balancing the needs and wants of our new players who wanted to PVE in high sec along with the old guard who had lost interest in high sec activities and wanted to go PVP somewhere. We did our best to maintain the eGO "accept everybody" standards which did lead to a constant influx of new players, but also made it hard to practice the good corp security needed to graduate to PVP as a corp.
Eventually, this lead to several fractures as small groups split off to go find PVP somewhere. Blackhawk and a few others split off to go to null. A few others split off to form a wormhole PVP corp. Some split off to form a high sec mining corp, etc. Again, different folks may disagree on an analysis, but I think the point of no recovery probably occurred in January 2012 when a large number of us vets, including several members of leadership (I was a DL at the time) all decided to split off and form our own PVP corporation. We still maintained friendly ties with eGO and would help out eGO corp if needed - most of us were still eGO members first after all - but I think the in game activity started to slowly drop. I'm not sure when the division was officially closed down. I started work for a consulting company in late 2012 and really lost touch at that point, but I think it was still alive up until around 2013?
Anyway, eGO had a pretty strong history with EVE at one point, backed by a lot of good veteran members with high participation rates. But I think it would be hard to start a division up again. It was always hard to promote eGO values in a game that is known for double crosses, foul language, and serious hardcore PVP shenanigans.
