Wel since you guys have decided to shake things up why not add a rotating map server? literally it gets old playing same old map without other options at times. There are other players who are interested in this option besides me.

We have had many rotation servers over the years that have never lasted or done well. I think there was talk of our kalt/donner server merging into one though at some point.

DoDS division will probably lose a server as both Kalt and Donner sit empty most of the time. The two servers will probably be one server, a rotation maps of Kalt/Donner.

This has been happening with the other eGO game servers of the other divisons of cutting back of empty servers. The eGO game server list is not as big as it use to be.

Would there be a chance of rotating the Ava server by adding Ava at_night to it??

I beg to differ, since we've been tracking maps (4 Years tomorrow!) the Rotation server is the fourth longest running server besides those we still have today. Before that I know Anzio & Charlie were long runners too.

I think dropping the bottom two servers for a Rotation server is the best option we have.

Start it as a Stock Rotation and go from there.

GLHF!

eGO4Life!

No. That is a bad idea. If something is not broken, do not try to fix it. Avalanche server is almost always 32/32, except on some unusual times where nobody is playing. If you do anything to hurt the server, then you will never bring it up to what it was before.

If you want to try avalanche at night, then you should only request that for a different server.

I agree with Cubey, don't change Ava AT ALL. Too many regulars would be miffed.

BUT you could add an Ava at_night to a rotation or Kustom server... PJSugar

One of the things that you can do on the rotation server is change up the point system. I remember back when eGO had the Anzio server (which I played every single day), many regulars from Avalanche would play it only because it had bonus points. That could be an incentive for people to play on Rotation.

Okay, I will help with the indecisiveness since the other servers sit empty most of the time.

Try Flash with a small Orange Tower Map. If that doesn't work after 2 months try two other maps.

Done...problem solved.

Oh, I'm just kidding. But would love to bounce from Avalanche to something else fun with eGo. Truth be told some of these Allied teams have been frustrating lately.

Yeah it the best way to rotating maps to keep player happy without complaint. always same map which i have seen
some player complaining about it

How about rotation with All-Talk, like 1st Marine Raider Battalion, 70th Infantry Division, and 6th Rangers Battalion. They are quite full most of the time and they have FF on.

Rotation is a great concept, but what it leads to is a rapid decay in sever population. Basically, when server maps rotate... people who don't like the map leave. This often can lead to a death spiral since many people just sort by number of players and go to the highest populated servers. It requires an active population management strategy to be successful (basically a roster of people ready to jump in when server population dies).

Maybe there could be a thread with a survey where we could vote for 2 maps from a list to be on a trial server (excluding the ones that currently aren't popular). You could advertise the survey on the MOTD function for Avalanche as well. This would provide the ability to gauge the players interest who frequent the server. The survey could be up for a couple of weeks and the top voted maps would be chosen.

It's worth a try. :chair:

Well, I've mentioned it several times in other posts,
but just because I've tried something once before... maybe this will be the one time it works!

My solution is perfect, and we don't have to give up all of our servers (not just yet)

1. Turn on over-flow module for Avalanche.
So that while people are waiting in queue to join avalanche... they automatically join our secondary
server which will help fuel the population. Ensuring that people do not leave for other non-eGO
servers while they are in queue. This also will have the benefit of letting others see a bunch of users
are in our secondary map from the server listing... inspiring them to join it.

A few people complained last time we did that, but people do complain about the ads too...
and you don't see us dropping those anytime soon. It helps support our servers, and keeps them
running..... this will too!

2. The Secondary server.
This map should be (kalt+donner) rotation (+custom map if > 24 players)
All-talk is turned on.

3. Third Server.
This should be a rotation of a bunch of custom maps, non-standard, orange maps. non-ww2 maps.
All-Talk on.
Gun-Game server. (ie. kill one person, auto-changes to next class. person with last class wins round.)
Music Player module.
Funny audio quotes.

Basically this is the "Everything goes" server, where people can just have fun and goof around.
It should be able to attract people on its own, and people who don't want to play the standard maps
can just come here to have fun.

Also... I think when people suggest new maps for Avalanche... i think those are the people who
have played it to the point of insanity. lol everyone knows each others tactics.

sometimes i think people would just like to see "something" out of the ordinary, winning round after
round..... you forget, people will leave a game for that reason as well... no matter how popular
avalanche is... that can still kill a server.

i think "from time to time" if our avalanche server changed a map, like every 5 rounds or so, people
might get pretty excited about it... and it would break up the redundancy of people doing the same
pattern over and over again.

plus people are a little more flexible than you give them credit for, they like our servers, not just
for avalanche, they're there because.... everyone else is there, and they're there because we
keep the peace and they like our servers.

consider that..... when Christmas rolls around, for several years we've had the "presents module",
this is a drastic change from the norm, and people continue to play our Avalanche servers, and don't
leave in a fit of rage..... so its not change in general that people leave a server for.... its generally
change that people consider bad.

even if you change a map... its still going to be the same old eGO that everyone knows and loves.
as long as the map is considered fair to both sides, people are usually good with it.

Warren,

You are so eloquent in writing! Nicely stated. Does the leadership for eGo read these forums? I know the Admins who play on the server and will see some making or commenting on posts but does leadership play DODs and follow these threads?

I'm not trying to be a squeaky wheel I just don't know the leadership structure: who is a community leader, forum leader, server admin or an actual decision maker. If players like you (and me :P ) didn't care about the eGo DODs community being successful then there wouldn't be passionate posts about making strategic and positive changes. Keep up the great effort.

Respectfully,

Ali

Thank you.

all the time! they're watching us now.....

you can often find leadership on DODS, generally around 5 PST. you'll most always find them in
either kalt or donner. so if you REALLY want to play with them, you can find them there.

I'm not trying to be a squeaky wheel I just don't know the leadership structure: who is a community leader, forum leader, server admin or an actual decision maker.

Last time I checked, Megs a Tagger and Annihilator are our divisional leader for Day of Defeat: Source.
I don't know their official titles, but they are our leadership officials.

All decisions though are discussed with other eGO in high ranking positions.

any changes to our server/maps has to go through our "Tech Division"
perhaps someone can tell us which user is responsible for the tech for our division.

If players like you (and me :P ) didn't care about the eGo DODs community being successful then there wouldn't be passionate posts about making strategic and positive changes. Keep up the great effort.

I think the major argument against making any changes, has been that all of the changes have been
tried before and did not show any results... however, I think they are wrong in that there has been no
results, because.... all of us can recount some good memories had from some of the changes made in
the past... like for me, I remember playing friendly fire anzio with the other ego leadership, for me...
that was memorable, and i had a lot of fun doing that... why when I play anzio on other servers,
i do pretty well because the other eGO helped make it a memorable fun map.

I think that's really the ticket too, is not that we get tons and tons of players, but that we are providing
a fun atmosphere for the people we DO have.... that's not something that shows up in statistics. you
discover that by talking to the players and see what they're thinking and by how they express
themselves, what they're feeling about something.

i can pin point other memories of other changes, like the avalanche server overflow module, and the
music player that played bad music. lol

many of the best things we enjoy in life are constantly evolving, if you try to capture it in a single
state to preserve it forever... you will find it often goes stale. you got to just keep changing and helping
it evolve into something even more enjoyable.

its like watching bob ross paint, he always gets to a stage where his paintings look absolutely perfect,
and you're like "don't touch it, its perfect!" but he just keeps going, adding more and more happy little
trees... and he just continues to improve and improve until he has a masterpiece.

We have a lot of great ideas on this thread, so hopefully we can turn some of them into our own little
masterpiece.

Hi Alicia,

Megs a Tagger is our community Manager - she oversee's the whole division and handles things at a higher level in the community for us when need be.

Annihiliator is our Division Leader - he keeps track of day to day operations around here.

We have an advisor team who handle some specific teams and divisional stuff:

Nuclear Cowboy - Admin Training
Predator Lark - Demo Viewing, Admin Training
Superglue - DoD Rangers, Admin Training
Zer0 - Tech

We have a nice little FAQ thread with some extra info if you want to read a bit :) https://www.edge-gamers.com/forums/showthread.php?155457-DoD-S-FAQ-s

While leadership doesn't always get a chance to reply publicly, I can guarantee you they do read these forums daily and discuss the ideas. They have our best interests and the communities interests in mind :)

If you ever want to get to know some of the leadership team a bit more, drop by on teamspeak! Even if you don't have a mic. A lot of us hang out there and play a variety of games and have a lot of fun!
