What does the explosion on Goldrush do.......?

I have seen the explosion several times from far away, but never saw what it was destroying. What is it that blu is trying to demolish?

Underneath the final point, there's a pit full of yellow fuel barrels or something. All I know is that the first time I played it I fell down there. xD

It is destroying everyone who's near it. I got blown up a couple times. Dont know if its destroying more.

It's pretty hilarious actually - last time I was there, when the defending team lost, several of them (along with some on the winning team too...) committed hari-kari by intentionally jumping into the hole when it opened up to let the bomb fall in . I was dead at that point, so my camera was looking right at the hole while people on both sides were happily suiciding by falling into that hole.

I decompiled the map and took a look at it. the explosion is a dynamic prop that has an animation associated with it. I may have to whip up a test map that has them littered accross the landscape like the moon. may make for some fun.

That explosion is the real motivation that gets the attackers to move the bomb through three stages. It is very rewarding to drop the bomb in the hole. There is something personally satisfying when I am the one to deposit it. I willingly sacrifice myself to watch all the defenders right around me get blown up into the sky.

Is that explosion made in the same way as HL2 Ep2's 'Cinematic Physics' method? Pre-rendered, real-time generated, whatever it's called? xD

Yeah, but the thing that confused me is that the explosion is relatively small, so it must be meant to destroy something specific.
I guess the barrels in the pit make sense though. Blu could be trying to release radiactive waste throughout reds base.

it is fun to use an uber to get into the pit right after the explosion! (got to use it as the thing is dropping though)
