He's never in love with his step mom.

If you actually read the manga, you might discover there's a lot more to it than what's on the surface (and what was covered in the anime). There's a lot about understanding feelings and discovering love.

It's a giant soap opera, but a really good one.

Simon's correct. The show, although it covers taboo topics, actually is written pretty well and was quite interesting.

Plus...
There are shows produced by mainstream studios like A1 that cover topics like these too. SAO, one of the most popular anime in North America, literally has an arc where the protagonist's sister is in love with him. Although it's a bad anime for a bunch of other reasons.

If you don't think you'll like the anime that's a personal preference, it's not bad though
 
SAO, despite having the living hell meme'd out of it at this point and becoming a running joke to hate it (it's a crappy joke now) has a bunch of points that are quite fun. The first half of S1 is quite interesting and can be a fun ride. The second half isn't as interesting. S2 has some points that are decent and enjoyable, as well as a particularly good final arc.

Give it a try. Lots of people love it. Don't fall for the crappy memes.

There's a movie as well that's fairly good.

I didn't enjoy Alicization (S3, technically) much at all.
 
To be honest, you're probably better of waiting for the SAO reboot (Sword Art Online: Progressive) to come out (sometime this year) before you really get into things. It will cover the first arc in significantly more detail which is what most people wanted anyway so that should be fun. And it's coming from the same author who acknowledged the shortcomings of the first arc so that's always nice to hear.

I'm not sure I would consider falling in love with step siblings taboo per se, especially since Natsuo was already in that convoluted love triangle before any of them knew they were to be step siblings. It's ok. Momo and Miu are the If you want "taboo", you should watch Shinsekai Yori. That's definitely filled with a few things you probably don't want to associate yourself with. Fantastic show though.

Just starting it. OK so far. But I can see there is some good setup.

Orphans, Magic, Adolescence, Clover Mythology....What could go wrong?

Watched a few bad movies recently... High School Fleet one was not very good at all.

But I read all of the existing chapters of Ancient Magus Bride and started the show. Such a cool world.

Goosesk Goosesk WATCH BLACK CLOVER! Just started Season 3. It's been awesome. Some good draama and twists. Oh and I bought a Black Bulls T-Shirt!
