I think it all boils down to the quality of the meat as well.. anything under 85% lean, and you
end up with a fatty mess.

Depends on the place that cooks the meat as well. Anything leaner than 85%...you lose flavor. I prefer a ground chuck which tends to be between 80%-85%. If they seer the patty right there is no greasy mess

Monster! I've only heard of White Castle on television. I've never seen one but aren't they considered like the In & Out Burger for the East Coast? I'm sure they are good too. :confused1:

White Castle in the northern states is a lot like Krystal down south - tiny square burgers. People love 'em or hate 'em. They are the original "Slider", the name started off as derogatory (I won't elaborate) and now the name "Slider" is embraced everywhere to mean a mini burger of some kind. I'm in the like 'em camp. I like In & Out too! How about Steak & Shake? I only ate at one once, but I remember them being pretty good.

I have only had white castle out of the box in the grocery store. They are awesome as a snack. I have been to Krystal's when I was in Birmingham. They are good, but I wouldnt say they are in the same league with In N' Out. Steak and shake sounds familiar. Here in AZ, they have Freddy's. They have a chopped steak burger and frozen custard drinks. Whole place is set like a 50's diner. The burgers there are freaking delicious. Generally they just have mustard, pickles and onions (with cheese, of course) and they have the perfect saltiness factor to them. They have become one of my fav's. Not to mention, they give you a big-ass basket of shoestring fries, that have some sort of seasoned salt, with a little bit of their special fry sauce.

Alicia, upon further review, I vote Freddy's for burger AND fries. Although five guys, smashburger, and in n' out are all awesome, Freddy's holds a place in my heart and tummy.

Here in Minnesota, we have Freddy's too! I can only take their burgers in moderation, they come out very very greasy (same reason I don't like Culvers, another northern chain)! The grease is probably why they are good though. That said, I usually don't like fries (*gasp*) but Freddy's are awesome and even better, try their Chili Cheese Fries - they seriously rock!!
