Is church of avalanche valuable?

It was a rhetorical question. YES of course it is

some say it's not but IMO it definitely is important

I know some of u guys would agree but others might not

it's the same at the servers too some say secure the church

and others say eff church and push 2nd and apt

in many cases both opinions come from players with much experience, good players

I guess as each player's experience varies their understanding of the map varies too

so I acknowledge the possibility that my view of this matter might not be balanced since

I play rocket and mg a lot and I usually am an axis but I still wanna state my reasons

so that we can undertand each others opinion better.

here's the reasons why I think church is important(from the axis side)

1. you can kill allies from the church hallway

many ally assaults, supports, rifles run to church bush then to axis 1st or cellar

if Axis have church then they can use the church hallway to shoot those guys from the side

even the most skilled players can't survive the shots from their 9 to 6 given that range is adequate

some might ask Can't axis mgs kill those guys? and now here comes the 2nd reason

2. Axis mg can perform way better when his/her team has church

when mg is at axis 2nd it can be a pain in the ass for the allies cause that mg can cover mid

but it's not always easy to survive as a mg especially if allies are performing synchronized attack on axis 2nd

if 1 shoots from the apt crack and the other from apt exit at the same time mg usually can't kill them both

fortunately usually the timing is not precise and they both die in turns

but when those attacks comes from totally different area, say 1 from apt crack the other from church tower,

it becomes way harder to deal with, when u are focused on the apt your reaction toward other objects gets slower

and it get's worse when the enemy from the church tower is a rifle or a sniper then mgs don't really have much chance

and God forbid if ally mg is set up at church ent then the whole team, not just mgs, will suffer directly from it

if MGs can just rule out church from the list of usual suspects it really helps them perform way better

in doing so mg helps one's teammates perform better too(especially a Panzer if he/she is on axis 2nd or mid)

3. u can get ally 2nd very quickly

Good players know it's usually easier to take enemies' 1st first then the 2nd in the end

if u can see your mate capturing 1st flag u can just run out of church hallway and capture their 2nd in a heart beat

even if u are at the church tower u can jump to church gable then to ground without losing too much health

unless there's enemies at their lower apt exit u can usually get the winning capture

4. u can keep allies out of the wine cellar more easily

if an enemy can come into axis cellar it's not a good sign for axis if many of them can find their ways

to the cellar then it really is a bad sign which means axis mg is not covering mid or they are coming from church

if ally players start playing hide and seek in axis house it get's nasty, axis have to place some time and manpower

to clear the situation which means less force to use to defense and offence

having church, with the benefit of making mgs cover mid more effectively, can lower the possibility of

those painful events quite dramatically

5. church is a good camping spot + all the benefits I mentioned above

if u guard church hall it's not that hard to kill 2 or 3 of them before u die

which means keeping church clear from allies doesn't require much manpower
(especially when axis mg is on their 2nd balcony or mid)

and that guy who are guarding church hallway can join the axis rush to ally 1st

or as I mentioned above take ally 2nd when the 1st is already taken

I know situations vary and according to those various situations the value of church varies too

but usually securing church is not a bad way to start

p.s. I already said the situation varies but to be more specific I listed what I think to be the cases

in which church's importance is decreasing

1. when your mgs never goes to your 2nd or cover mid and just camp near 1st

in this situation allies can have a safe passage to axis cellar so benefit no.2 and 4 get lost

if there's no one covering cellar ent this problem would get worse

2. when enemy mg, sniper, rocket or rifle is aiming church hallway

in this case you'll have a hard time using hallway to shoot them but it also means their

valuable assets(especially mg and sniper) are not using their power to press mid so it really isn't that bad

unless too many of axis are in church doing nothing

3. when ally just don't care about the church XD

sometimes, usually after rounds of slaughters, allies withdraw into their safe spot and enjoy their false sense of safety

many of them would go into the apt and don't really come out or even shoot mid from the inside

while doing so much of their manpower would be wasted idling and their defense would become weak

in those cases church doesn't hold much value, attacking fast through mid would be more efficient

4. when one team is way better than the other

no.3 above is an example of this situation. If one team is much better than the other

then the defense would be crushed very fast. there won't even be any time to regroup

in those cases by going church u might be allowing yourself to be meaningless

since either way you won't see much or even any blood until the round ends

there would be more cases but these are the things I can think of right now

as I said from the beginning some of u might not agree with me

and some of u might say 'hey why this guy saying thing this obvious out loud? pish, we already know that'

either way you are welcome to reply. if you are the former u can reply saying why my post is just a long gibberish

of which's reason I'll try to enjoy and understand, and if you are the latter u can always add more reasons

why church is important :) In case of u just crushing axis while I'm in church and shove it in my face,

I added the cases when church becomes less valuable ;)

Once again The People Have Spoken the truth! I enjoyed reading your perspective about the church's importance for the Axis team. It seems that #4 on your list has been occurring often lately which throws strategy out the window.

You know my patterns. I usually hug the church's wall and go straight up the middle to the cellar or your alley. Throw caution to the wind I say...MG gun fire, snipers, rockets, who cares! I really lack a plan.

Sometimes I will take the church route but usually get frustrated by an Axis MG set up on the 2nd level or bottom level campers so I try to avoid it. I almost never go through the apartments.

So in my humble opinion the church is very important for the Axis minus other variables to consider (quality of players on both sides and positioning of Axis MGs). When YOU set up that awful Axis MG on your #2 flag area and have control of church it is difficult.

I would enjoy a post where you analyze Axis cellar defense. I've ran into so many different ways Axis will defend it. :facewall: Some Axis teams never defend it (to their doom). :P

Thank you for a fun post Explosion!

I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed my post :D
I was worried I might have oversimplified things a bit so I'm glad it made sense :) I really hate it when there's no red dot in church and the wine cellar... it usually means somebody is already in the cellar or even worse in axis spawn...(yes I'm talking about u and other guys Alicia) but just to be clear I wasn't trying to say we all should go to church and live there I appreciate the guys who go into apt where allies are waiting when I can see those red dots in the apt I feel much safer to go to mid but I also like to see 1 or 2 red dots near the church hallway we can all meet at the ally 1st if things go well anyway lol. situation changes very quickly and to be at the right place at the right time constantly might not be easy but imo It usually is not the wrong place to be when axis is at the church hallway(excepts some occasions I mentioned above) it makes situation simpler for your mates and more complicated for the allies.

and about the Axis cellar defense I'm not sure I can say much about that subject as u said there are a lot of ways to defend and I mean I do it when it is need(usually as a support or assault class) but not really familiar with those stuffs XD the best way is to shoot them with rocket from above I guess but it would mean I can't help outside situation which must have been quite bad if axis had to place defense at the cellar... maybe someone with more experience can show us both about the variety of cellar defense :)

Analysis Paralysis
Analysis paralysis or paralysis by analysis is the state of over-analyzing (or over-thinking) a situation so that a decision or action is never taken, in effect paralyzing the outcome. A decision can be treated as over-complicated, with too many detailed options, so that a choice is never made, rather than try something and change if a major problem arises. A person might be seeking the optimal or "perfect" solution upfront, and fear making any decision which could lead to erroneous results, while on the way to a better solution.[1] On the opposite end of the time spectrum is the phrase extinct by instinct, which is making a fatal decision based on hasty judgment or a gut reaction.

Counterfactual Thinking
Counterfactual thinking is a concept in psychology that involves the human tendency to create possible alternatives to life events that have already occurred; something that is contrary to what actually happened.

Information Overload
Information overload (also known as infobesity[1] or infoxication[2]) is a term used to describe the difficulty of understanding an issue and effectively making decisions when one has too much information about that issue.

Thomas Theorem
In 1923, W. I. Thomas stated more precisely that any definition of a situation would influence the present.

Self-Fulfilling Prophecy
A self-fulfilling prophecy is a prediction that directly or indirectly causes itself to become true, by the very terms of the prophecy itself, due to positive feedback between belief and behavior.

Bounded Rationality
Bounded rationality is the idea that when individuals make decisions, their rationality is limited by the tractability of the decision problem, the cognitive limitations of their minds, and the time available to make the decision.

Decision Fatigue
decision fatigue refers to the deteriorating quality of decisions made by an individual after a long session of decision making.[1][2] It is now understood as one of the causes of irrational trade-offs in decision making.[2] For instance, judges in court have been shown to make less favorable decisions later in the day than early in the day.

Pygmalion Effect
The Pygmalion effect, or Rosenthal effect, is the phenomenon whereby higher expectations lead to an increase in performance.

Golem Effect
The Golem effect is a psychological phenomenon in which lower expectations placed upon individuals either by supervisors or the individual themselves lead to poorer performance by the individual.

Self-Defeating Prophecy
A self-defeating prophecy is the complementary opposite of a self-fulfilling prophecy: a prediction that prevents what it predicts from happening. This is also known as the "prophet's dilemma".

Cassandra Metaphor
The Cassandra metaphor occurs when valid warnings or concerns are dismissed or disbelieved.

Warren are you trying to prove you are smarter than us AGAIN!?!?!?

I don't think I've heard of Stratego but I'm sure I can beat you in that too.

Late post.
Church is just as necessary as any flank on any map. If allies have it, they can aim MG or sniper at axis 2. Or they can get behind axis players via arch.
Axis do not need it so much, they just need it secured so allies can't do what I just mentioned.

The point though is, its a flank. Flanks are always something to keep in mind.

Furthermore...
You know my patterns. I usually hug the church's wall and go straight up the middle to the cellar or your alley. Throw caution to the wind I say...MG gun fire, snipers, rockets, who cares! I really lack a plan.
I almost never go through the apartments.
You can raise your effectiveness with smoke grenades and instead of running along the church wall every-time, you need to evaluate the middle quickly when you start running up it. Judge where your enemies are, and where their blind spots are. As an assault, you have to reload at times so you need a place to hide. Or just dance around dodging bullets(sometimes works lol).
Hugging the right wall, going prone immediately at the first rock cover in middle, or going left up the church wall are the most common paths I choose. Sticking to the church wall usually gets me killed unless mid is clear or if I manage to kill the people on mid.
If there is an MG on mid, I go up the right wall to the blind spot.
Smoke grenades are so important! They bring confusion and cover. They go perfect with an assault who can spray ammo through smoke.
Also, you should consider going apartments more often, especially if you see apartments is vacant.
Wear headphones as an assault because assaults fight close up. If you can hear footsteps, or cries of pain from grenades, you can locate enemies fast and kill.
Anyways I think you play assault. That's why all the assault related info.

well said Doldrum, It's not what axis can do with church but what enemy can do with it. I mean shooting ally from the side sure is fun but comparing to the damage ally can cause when they have church, it's not that serious(well maybe except when ally are camping heavily at their lower apt exit) but as I said above, there are people who don't see it like that and that's why I wrote this long post, in hope of finding out about which part of my reasoning they don't agree with and what is their reasoning. unfortunately it seems like I wouldn't get the chance to hear their side of story
