I haven't bought the game nor have I heard a bunch about it but what I have heard is the controversy behind EA/DICE enabling purchases of content that would normally take many many hours to get. This provided a very unfair advantage, especially to those who are not so financially fortunate. I've recently become a big fan of DrDisrespect and I know he had touched on this a bit today during his stream and just a little bit ago, I got a notification of him retweeting and giving kudos to EA/DICE for making this statement.

Thoughts on this?

Eh, doubt they will keep it like this. They just want to sell copies for the holidays, then turn microtransactions back on once they sell. EA are still greedy AF, tbey are just trying to resuscitate their PR temporarily. Wish Lucas arts said no to buying out their game rights.

"The ability to purchase crystals in-game will become available at a later date."

I was interested in this game but from what I heard recently I’m not going to waste my time on it. Not only because of the micro transactions but also because of the hour cap they put on iconic characters just seemed really dumb to me

Still hate progression through loot boxes. It's fine for cosmetics but anything gameplay benificial feels bad. Would rather upgrade my cards by leveling not RNGeus

Gonna play devils advocate. Is it really pay to win if the paying part comes at a point where you won't be winning anymore because everyone else will have equivalent stuff, except you skipped out on the earlier levels where you would be building up skill, and then just get dumpstered on cuz you suck

Yes it is still pay to win because you are paying real money for gameplay altering items that literally win you games such as health damage etc. It's like saying you can play 4000 hours of CSGO or pay 19.99 to use any of the rifles. The example is extreme but gets the point across. Maybe it could be considered pay to progress but it's about the same thing

I pre-ordered the deluxe edition after I played the beta so I am in. There is something I really don't understand however. The game is what it is, if people don't like a mechanic of a certain game then don't play it. EA will get their money one way or another as per the reinstating the in game purchases at a later date. In the end the loot box mechanic will make them money. They have stayed away from the Battlefield series with this type of money making mechanic for now and I believe with the stink that is being put up by people on the internet it might take them a while to implement it into the BF series (hopefully).

That point is literally not even close to what is going on in battlefront 2. A better example is one could spent a few hundred hours to get tier4 star cards for most of the major classes they play getting around a 20% power/health increase in some cases, or someone could spend upwards of $100 to $200 to get equivalent decked out. Say you could play a few rounds in csgo matchmaking but you couldn't buy a vest unless you spent $10. Yah sure, a vest would be nice to get, but since you've been playing multiple rounds you already have an ak-47 and don't care all that much that mr. new guy bought a vest with his money.

At the point the micro-transactions come into play, one would assume that anyone actually interested in the game will already be kitted out and that person only spends money to catch up, rather than straight up win. It's only a detriment to new players down the line, but then again existing players would smash them anyway due to the same star card disparity.

Dice is screwing up a lot.... this is just one more thing in a long line of screw ups. Their focus is on the bottom line, which is understandable, but they are cutting on things they shouldn't cut, and focusing on things that are alienating players. I.E. Cutting PunkBuster in favor of FairFight standalone, and starting to charge players while in game. This is only going to get worse.

This all happened because of their Reddit AMA. The Reddit community tore into them deep and their thread from what I was hearing, became the most down voted thread of all time. Like Fistacles said, they are still greedy and that ingame purchases will probably be back after the holidays. If they keep it this way, I will be pleasantly surprised.

As we know, EA have announced that micro-transactions will return and will be progression based rewards. The game has not even been out for a week and I am seeing players already with classes/heroes/reinforcements (such as starfighters, AAT/AT-ST/support vehicles) that are level 30+ at the legendary purple level.

From just the 5 hours of the game that I have played, I decided to see how many credits I would make towards my progression (without accepting challenge/milestone rewards). From 5 hours of both Galactic Assault and Starfighter Assault, I have made a mere 3,500 credits. My highest credit reward from one game being just 335 (multiple times, leaving me to believe that the cap is at 335) and my lowest at 15 credits for a full 20 minute game and playing the objective.

So to actually get star cards for my classes from loot crates, I do feel that the only way to enjoy the game and its contents, without it feeling like an utter grind like an MMO, --which we MUST remember, is an FPS game!!-- , is to buy crystals to get loot crates. Something EA stated that they want their playerbase to do if they wish to progress. I for one feel that I cannot trust EA again, and after DICE's mess of Battlefield 1 for me, and now this... I am done.

I have the game and like it overall. Not getting my panties in a twist over the whole in game crystals thing. Is it stupid, yes.... but most of the battlefield games have shortcuts you can buy to get all the unlocks and stuff. They should just call it what it is, not try to hide it.
