So since ive been a kid ive always collected blades. From throwing knives to switch blades to swords and others. When i got married my wife was still ok with me collecting them, but since we had a kid together she and i both agreed not to have them in the living area or the play area so i moved them into my gameing room and bed room but i have so many that its hard to keep them all in 1 place. So recently i have put the knives on the side of my bed ranging from the head board to the foot board. Tbh i used to do this when i was a kid because i always felt safe always haveing a weapon at arms length. My wife thinks this is weird and asked me to remove them from the bed and either move them into my gaming room or into storage and idk what to do since i have so many and i like to use them all. My gaming room walls are full of swords and cabnets full of blades and i know if i put them in storage i might forget about them. So what do you guys think i should do? Btw i have around 600 different kimds of blades ranging in size of 3in-60in

Happy wife happy life... I suggest getting a fingerprint entry safe, or you might have to get rid of them.

First of all, I think you should send pics because that sounds awesome. Secondly, I agree with Binary. Not about getting rid of them, but about the safe idea. You can usually get some pretty decent size safes that'll hold a good number of knives or swords. Instead of on the bed, could you maybe put some of the longer blades under the bed? I know I keep a lot of stuff under my bed, such as some guitar equipment like pedals and extra cables, but some people keep their area cleaner and more organized than I do.

Also, I understand your kid is probably too young to fully understand now, but my brother and I were taught safety with guns and blades early on in life. My grandpa and dad would sit down with us when we were still in early elementary school to teach us the importance of being safe with knives and guns around. So, I can't really remember a time where I couldn't be around blades.

Sounds awesome, but to a dane - very illegal. I wish I knew more about this stuff to help, but it's very alien to me.
BUT IT DOES INDEED SOUND AWESOME.
PICTURES?

I also would appreciate pictures.

okay, when you say they are on the side of your bed ranging from the head board to the foot board, what do you mean? Like they are on the edge of your mattress? It sounds more like an unhealthy obsession when you phrase it that way.

I have several guns, I like one to be on me or within a short distance but I understand when I have a young child I will have to lock them away, just as my friend has done with his four kids.

I imagine she knew what she was getting into. I would never be with someone who wanted to change me, but she doesn't appear to be doing that, just wants them stored. You don't use all 600 of them, keep your favorite ones out and put the other 590 of them away lol!

When I was a single man without children. I used too keep my hunting rifles in a gun rack on my living room wall. I always had a loaded shotgun by the door and a loaded handgun in my bed room. Firearm safety was not very important at that time in my life

Then my first daughter was born and all that had to change. all My guns got trigger locks and went into a gun safe. I still keep a loaded hand gun in my bedroom but it is in a fingerprint safe for quick access's.

Always remember no matter how well we teach our kids safety accident's do and will happen if we do not take the proper precautions.

A way to think of this is how would you feel if one of your kids got injured because thy got a hold of one of you're knives that were not secured.

Of course you should enjoy you're collection but do it in a safe way.

sounds like your collection has turned into an obsession with a side of OCD. Remember that marriage is about compromising and sacrifices. She has compromised by letting you keep some in your gaming room so maybe you should make a sacrifice and put them in storage. Better yet, sell them on ebay and put the money aside in an account for your child for his/hers future

It is nice to have hobbies, and it is nice to have a family. Your job as a dad and a man (husband) is to keep your family safe. Not your personal enjoyed hobby. The number 1 problem this world has is "selfishness". I am not saying you are selfish. But your priority as a man is your family, not your knives.
The knives are second priority to your family, so box them up and only keep a limited amount handy for your hobby. And the only way to keep them out for you to enjoy is to ensure there is 100% no way for your children or wife to get hurt from them.
All of this is relative as one man's resources may allow him to construct an entire building to keep his knife collection in without sacrificing resources from his family. I do not know what your resources are.
But it sounds like you are like most men, you need to grow up (like we all must do) and put your family first.
The knives go away until you can properly teach your children how to enjoy them safely.
I had to put my guns away for 10 years until my sons were old enough for me to teach them gun safety and enjoy them as I do. I bought a gun safe, and locked them up. Now that they are grown and educated I only keep one out for protection. But when they were small children, I locked all up, and took the 10 second risk of having to get them out if something were to happen.
A small price to pay for my son's lives.

Nothing wrong with your hobby, but as a married man and a father you need to re-adjust your priorities. You are not a single person living through life anymore. You are their rock and must be the one thing with solid answers. Your priorities are now second to their resources and safety.

Good luck, and enjoy...
