This only happens in CS: source eGO servers.

My problem is that im lagging and teleporting around even when my ping is 60. it doesnt go above 100, but when i move i keep getting teleported back and forth. When i switch weapons, it doesnt switch and i have to switch 4-6 times before it can finally switch to my secondary (it does switch but automatically goes back to primary) and there is a HUGE delay when i buy weapons, it takes me 1 sec to buy everything i need, but it takes like 10 seconds to actually get the stuff i bought, sometimes i get nothing because the buy time expires before i got the weapons (even though i bought everything i needed beginning of round). I open my steam server browser, my ping is normal. I open another server everything is fine but when i join back to eGO my game starts screwing up. i also sometimes get kicked when this happens with this message "Disconnect: Buffer overflow in net message". It happened again yesterday and i wasnt the only one who got kicked 4-5 of us got kicked at the same time.

Best thing that I found (pretty much it could be one of several possible causes):

"Someone was asking me how to fix this, and I didn't really have an answer except some basic things. I've looked around and could not find anything. So I thought I would post them a basic trouble shooting step to resolve/find the problem. From what I have read the buffer overflow in net message is a ram issue, server issue, someone spamming the server, your rates are wrong, your internet is choked, ... but most people say it happens to your cache files sometimes when people are talking on the mic during spawn. So I have no idea but anyways - TRY THIS:

STEP 1: Power down your PC.

STEP 2: Power down your ROUTE and your CABLE modem. Let them sit powered down for 30 seconds. Then turn them both back on and give it a minute or two to fire it self back up.

STEP 3: Power up your PC

STEP 4: Verify Steam Files. To do this go to your steam library
right click on counter strike source and go to > properties
On the top you will see a tab, click on the [LOCAL FILES] tab
Click on the button [Verify integrity of game files]
Grab a coffee or a snack and it should be done in a few minutes.

STEP 5: Launch Counter Strike and set your rates.
(You cannot change rates when you are on a team so do this before you connect to a server or in spectate) - OPEN YOUR CONSOLE AND TYPE:
cl_updaterate 100
Cl_cmdrate 100
Rate 128000

STEP 6: Connect to the server and see if the issue is fixed. if YES, pour some booze in that coffee because your work is done. If not, pour another cup and lets continue.

STEP 7: Join spectator, and open your console. Limit your rate to 25000: Did that fix the issue? If yes, your bandwidth is too low through your ISP that you had to limit your rate to get a stable connection so go to Step 10 down below: If the answer is NO - then proceed to step 8

STEP 8: REBOOT, and connect to a different CSS Server. Did that fix the issue? If YES, its some sort of cache file the server or your client side has. Not sure how to fix server side but you might have to reinstall css client side. because it only happens on the UA server Proceed to step 9.
If the answer is NO then proceed to step 10.

STEP 9: Does any other computer run CSS in your house, so can you test it? Does that computer also get the same issue? If NO, then its your client PC so uninstall and reinstall CSS on the problem PC. If that does not work, then you may have to trouble shoot the physical components. I would start with RAM. IF YES (both PC's have the issue when playing css) or if you only have the one PC to test then before you start ripping it apart go to step 10.

STEP 10: Test your internet connection [ Link Click Me ]
Click on (begin test) you should get > 50ms, and the same upload/download speeds you were advertised for and paying for to your internet service provider (ISP) (give or take a few MB/s) Run the test two or three times.
DO YOU GET WHAT YOUR PAYING FOR?
IF YES, then I'm at a dead end on what is causing it
IF NO, proceed to Step 11.

STEP 11: Try plugging your cable modem directly to your PC instead of using a router in-between. Run your connection speedtest.net and see if it is now improved. DID This fix the issue?
IF YES, replace your router its probably going bad.
IF NO, contact your ISProvider and start complaining!!!!

That's a basic trouble shooting guide I just typed up for CSS. I hope it helps and GOOD LUCK!"

Definitely sounds like issues on your end. Follow up with that guide above completely, especially verifying steam files and setting rates. Report back your findings :)

I have tried everything and it's all normal but it still happens but not as occasionally. Every other server i join is perfectly fine. I only have this problem when i join eGO servers.

I'll keep looking around for a fix

Any errors coming up in your console logs when this happens?

This could be due to data point/lines (servers) being congested because of other lines currently under maintenance or are completely down. I've had issues like yours for a long time. The only thing you can do is wait it out and don't bother listening to your IP Provider for "upgrades." Eventually, the issue fixes itself, at least for me it does.

Yeah, i've been noticing some improvement lately, it still happens but not as much as before. This time i can actually play a full map in peace without lagging like crazy, then it happens again next map and the cycle continues, weird.

Hiyaz Wilano,

I too have been getting major lag spike, where i couldn't play without lagging and warping around the map.
My ping normally was 58 - 69 at first... without lag, then it changed to 79 - 115.
I checked with my ISP and even reset my modem, pinged my ip to the server... and nothing wrong came out of it. Everything was running normal.

Two day's ago, maybe 3 days ago i got on the server and StealGus i think his name was... did an update on the server and guess what, The server is running way more smoother and the lag is less.
Even my ping is to an average on the server.

So this update and maybe a refresh to the server made things go smooth again.
Thank you for that StealGus... for fixing somethings.

Anyways Wilano, I hope your problems are also a bit solved and that you can play without those lag spike's.
