wow just looked at the power pc website, customized a rig, probably would've been the nicest computer i've ever seen, and it was still 300-450$ cheaper than my crappy dell. Too bad its only 3 years old, i'd buy that one i made ='( anyone have a powerPC, or custom gaming rig, does it actually help your gaming?

i built my own custom rig and while it doesn't really help my gaming, it sure did help my pocket book! don't be afraid to build your own. not only is it fun, but it's easy to do, especially with all the great people here willing to look over your build and help you find good deals.

Build your own, it's cheaper, and you can customize it any way you want. If what was so special about the powerPC build was the case, you can probably buy that one, or another one you like even better for much cheaper. It's easy, just read up on how to do it, and especially stop here at http://www.tech-forums.net/pc/ and tell them Inferno sent you. It's a nice sized board, with TONS of people willing to take even hours out of their day to help you. I'm sure there are people who'd be willing to even walk you through building a PC via webcam.

I second Ryken. I just built my first computer, and it was a blast, and I learned a lot doing it.
As for it helping my gaming...well it does just because I was able to build a MUCH higher spec computer than I had, and a higher spec computer than I could have afforded pre-built.

yeah, if i make enough money this summer (i'm only 15 so i don't have a full time job xD) i would really liek to custom build one, i'm kind of worried about building one myself, mostly because i don't know what parts will enhance my gaming, and most of my real life friends that game, didn't custom build theirs, they just bought one. Thanks for the advice guys!

I don't build. It's worth a couple hundred bucks for me to know someone else has done the research and put together a solid machine--or will have to make it right if they haven't. My current 3 year old rig is a Dell that runs just fine. I added some RAM and a decent graphics card. My next will probably come from PowerPC.

My 7 year old pc is a PowerPC. It still runs with the big boys today, even though i can't play the state of the art games. PowerPC was very reliable and helpful in getting my rig setup. If you want a good computer for pc gaming i would say voodoo pc, but we can all dream can't we?

Hmm. interesting. Im 15 as well and i have a part time job, kind of. And im saving up for a custom built desktop as well. We have a lot in common ;o

I'm not going to say it improved my gaming but my comp is from PowerPC, and I would buy another from them any day!

I'm going to go with Ryken and InfernO here - it's very satisfying to build your own machine and it often turns out cheaper. With a pre-built machine, you're often paying for things like monitors, keyboards, mice, and software that you might not need or want. Depending on what you use the machine for (I use mine for compiling code, not just gaming), it's also handy to be able to overclock or otherwise tweak it to get a bit more performance out of it, which you often can't do with pre-built PCs. On the other hand, with a pre-built machine, you do usually get a full system warranty, so it's a bit of a tradeoff.

I agree with monkeybits. I don't build. First off, I'm not sure what really even goes where. Not only that but I just recently(within the past 6 months) learned what Free RAM was. That said, it may not be safe for me to build lol.
