Zopy, you are a gun nut in the making. I am a full-blown gun nut. I have shot quite a few calibers. I have fired the M1 Garande, Mosin-Nagant, .270 Winchester (don't remember the make/model, but it was bolt action), an SKS (7.62 x 39mm), 12 gauge shotgun, 20 gauge shotgun, .69 black powder, .22 long and .22 short. Them's the long guns.
Pistols: .50 S&W, .45 ACP 1911 style, .44 magnum, .40 S&W, 9mm, .357 magnum, .38 special (.357 and .38 may both be fired from a .357 handgun, I used a Colt Python), .32 semi-auto and .32 rimmed (revolver). .22 long from revolver and semi-auto handguns, .22 short from a revolver.
I own a Ruger .22 carbine, 12 gauge shotgun and a .9mm Beretta PX4 Storm (with a second on the way for Bubbles so we can go to the range together).
Serious shooters may scoff at the choice of 9mm over .45. Gun snobs are like that. <big grin> I chose it because:
(1) The practice ammo is cheaper, and I hope never to use my gun anywhere but on the range.
(2) You get better than 90% stop with 9mm, .40 or .45
(3) Recoil is less, so it's easier to keep the pistol on target
(4) You can fit more rounds in the magazine (moot point in California where you have a 10 round mag limit, but I won't be here forever).
If you're thinking about a Beretta PX4 Storm, it is a sweet, sweet gun to fire, as Dangerdad can attest. When it comes to trigger pull, the only gun I like as much is a Sig, of course. Springfield makes a decent gun as well, but I do not like the "double" trigger safeties. Give me a nice big safety on top and a single, smooth-traveling trigger with a clean break.
