This is gonna be a straightforward list of DOs and DONTs when wardening. Keep in mind that this is based on my own experience, and I am no means saying that if you do or don't do these things, you are a bad warden.

DONT:
  • Use AFK Freeze. Why:
Unless you're taking warden after the previous warden died, This makes your CTs tunnel on stack, and less focused on rebellers who run away from stack. It also increases the chances of baiting, and is generally annoying for the Ts as well. Instead just use freeze when you don't want the Ts to move.
  • Use crouch or shift walk. Why:
This is unnecessary, annoying for the Ts, and wastes time. The only times these commands are reasonably used is when the CTs are really close to stack, or you are moving the Ts through a tight area.
  • Repeat your commands excessively. Why:
Once is enough; if people are talking over you as warden report them and repeat once. Repeating your commands can lead to confusion, especially since as humans, we tend to make mistakes and accidentally say something that we didn't mean to say.
  • Keep the Ts in once place for too long. Why:
This kind of falls into not delaying the round, but is a specific issue that I see come up a lot. People take a whole 2 minutes to give bomb st out of cells, while all the Ts are just sitting in a marker bored.
  • Delay the round. Why:
This is a pretty general thing, and comes in small ways. It means not having the Ts stop at every marker, it means not pursuing rebellers yourself unless absolutely necessary, it means not having a conversation with Fred the guard about what kind of toppings you want on your pizza that night while being warden. Basic stuff. Its annoying for the Ts who are just going to be waiting in a marker, and makes them more likely to rebel.
  • Be cancer. Why:
Really, this is so simple. Just don't do 1-step-out-of-your-cell-face-the-back-afk-freeze-and-****-your-uncle-joe. Its annoying, wastes time, and violates a whole bunch of other stuff. Furthermore, nobody likes to play luck based games. 1 marker lives is a great example, its just kind of annoying.

DO:
  • Be Efficient. Why:
This means a lot of things, playing multiple map games, moving the Ts to other places quickly and efficiently. Getting out of main cells quickly falls under this category as well.
  • Be Interesting. Why:
Every map and game is always the same except for the occasional update. Rounds can become very monotonous if you do the same things over and over. Switch things up a bit: Play games that are rarely played, come up with new custom games (Examples: tag, sharks and minnows, Unique "cancer" jumps), be entertaining, try to be funny. Anything helps.
  • Be aware of your surroundings. Why:
This is kinda self explanatory. You won't die as warden as much if you know where the Ts are.

There's a common misconception that doing cancer commands will get Ts killed and get you to LR quicker, but this ends up not being true just because games that take 50% are more efficient. The worst wardens are the ones that do these commands and literally giggle as they spray down stacks.

No better place to plug my spreadsheet than here.

I'm looking for people who can help me record data for that, if you're interested, just add me on steam.

There may be some stuff I missed, I'll probably edit it in later. Hope you enjoyed the read.

There are many wardening styles, and I feel this explains and shows one of the best in my opinion, I feel as if you have to go through a few "DON'Ts" when you start off as a warden, but once you become more experienced this is the type of wardening that you want to be known for. Good guide!

Everyone has their own way of being Warden, some choose the cancer route while others choose a more lenient and fun approach. At the end of the day if you don't want to die then follow the Warden's commands, plain and simple. Nonetheless it is a pretty nice and detailed thread, thanks O Orange !

If I’m trying to do fun games and the t rebels every round you know I’m going to do a. Cancerjump

Don’t:
Bait

Do:
Use CT areas
Use your gun
Use your brain
Use common sense

The cancer one is the route that few--if any--prisoners like. Its also less efficient, and it doesn't even always give you better control over the Ts.

imo the best thing to do is to start sacrificing Ts one by one until they start listening.

Bruh, afk freeze look directly down is the best command ever fam!

just tell em to get on the chairs on cloud and you can spray stack as a CT with NO ban!

This is just unnecessary cancer. Also, I'd argue that getting games played is faster than doing this.

Ik it is :p
was a bit sarcastic, but i can do it that way faster then playing games :p

Depends on how efficient you are with playing games. When you do commands like that, it makes it easier to rebel. Furthermore, guaranteeing cutting down the population by 50% is better than only killing off a few people who are unaware of whats going on, and probably would have died during the game anyways.

Efficiency is key as you highlighted. Wasting time going marker to marker is cancer unless it's like vipinthemix. Too many wardens like to crouchwalk follow warden across huge maps and it takes 9 years to play the first game.

Yeah, and I'm not saying that every round should be a grind to get to LR as fast as possible. The best wardens are the ones that try to keep the Ts entertained.
