Laggy Jailbreak

For PG/EG Jailbreak the server with max players is laggy and very hard to play in. Maybe some way to adjust the server capacity / server strength / or even a second server would be a nice help. A small suggestion I have but it would help a ton if anything would be done as the server cannot handle the 52 max players.

The pG TTT server has also started to lag a lot, but yeah, some optimization for JB would be nice. TTT too!

Yeah we definitely see some pretty bad server lag once the population is at its max. Not sure if its due to CS or our servers. Either way hopefully its tackled soon.

Could we also fix the problem with the server crashing 24/7. It used to RARELY happen. Now? Now it crashes all the time.

This wasn't as bad in pG but considering now 52 max happens pretty much all day - midnight on weekends it gets irritating

Stacking the t's in jailbreak (red marker normal size) can make the server lag so much

i feel money should be invested more in server size so server can run better and less laggy
doubt managers want to take it out of there own pocket, so so maybe have a donation drive to get servers working better (raffles etc)

This issue doesnt really effect me since the server is maxed out around like 9pm-5am for me so yeah i rearly play at those times.
It would be nice tho ;)

Im not exactly sure what the servers are being hosted on, but it would be a great idea for them to switch the servers to a vps, essentially a seperate computer in simpler terms for each server which would allow them to allocate more ram and cores to each server, for example you could give the jb server more ram and cores than the mg server because it takes more to run the jb server. This could possibly fix the problems but then again im not sure if the servers are already on a vps or not. If the servers arent already on a vps then this would cost more money. I assume these servers are on a vps already because its the best way to do things, and if they already are then i would suggest purchasing another vps and transfer the jailbreak server and any other server they seem fit to this vps specifically to give them more headroom to work with the amount of ram and vcores they might already be using on the previous vps. But all of this is theoretical because im unsure of how the servers are being hosted, and this could not even be the reason, it could be due to a certain plugin running on these servers that causes the performance loss. Its really hard to determine the reason behind the lag and it seems that this isnt a priority for them at all anyways.

eGO has several dedicated servers already (Much much more cost effective than VPS and flexible). All of this already happens, within those dedicated servers. Instances are allocated so much space, RAM, CPU, etc.

The main issue with lag on JB is probably:

1. The game was never designed to have that many players on a server like JB does
2. Too many entities and commands at once.
3. JB plugin is outdated and sucks (And is already being rewritten).

This isn't the servers fault. This is crappy code and a crappy game engine that cannot process enough information in an efficient time. It's getting more than enough resources.

Seriously, it's been an issue since Source. Ever been on Dust2 when it's full with 64 players on CSS? Same stuff happens. You can monitor the server and it will be running fine. The engine simply cannot keep up with it.

Simon is correct, although there are zombie escape servers that run just fine, of course there is lag but its not nearly as bad as our servers. You are correct about the engine not meant to hold this many players but i dont believe thats the reason due to zombie escape servers being able to hold 64 players+ and have little server lag. Its most likely due to plugins/entities/commands as Simon suggested, but if im not mistaken allocating more vCores and Ram to these servers could potentially lower the amount of lag that occurs.

I'm fairly certain this is a source engine issue and we have looked many times, and found no issue with resources being used up, combined with old plugins. As far as I know as well, as per a few months ago, there is not much available to allocate currently - it's already getting more than enough.

I'm sure tech can comment if that is not the case, but, it has been dug into a lot for some time now.

Im not claiming its for certain a resource issue, again your probably correct about it being plugins and such that are causing this issue, but im fairly certain it isnt a source engine issue, if you go on another jailbreak server aside from pG/eGO you wont experience this lag, and if you do it wont be nearly as much. Its pretty obvious that its something to do with our servers and not the engine, i can hop on another Jailbreak server and not experience this lag, you cant blame this on the engine if other servers seem to run just fine. It could be a engine issue, but by looking at how other servers run with similar amount of players and seeing that they dont experience this amount of lag, yes they experience it for sure, but the amount of lag we experience is significantly higher than others.

Edit: I should clarify that the lag is due to an engine issue, but the constant crashing and massive amounts of lag have to be due to the amount of plugins/commands that have the be proccessed on this engine. Lag will happen with the massive amounts of players, but the amount of lag and crashing cant be just the engine, there has to be a plugin thats interferring with something and causing this. The server had less than 20 players earlier and would constantly lag and crash, its obvious that isnt a player count issue because the engine cant handle that many players, the engine most definitely can handle 20 players or deathmatch and casual wouldnt be a thing.

It was due to Valve being Valve, we have since been fixing the problems. If these issues are still prevalent, feel free to contact us/Tech about it.

Cheers!
