I am proud to be able to announce a new part of eGO: eGO LAN Division!
"What is this newfangled LAN division?," you ask. Well I'll tell you. The LAN division, AttikusV's brain child, is an area where eGO members can find other members that live near them and then do what we do best, get together, have a great time and game. Now this isn't just going to be some area where people randomly post, "Hey! Party at my house in Tucson!" AttikusV, Signe and I are working on a script that works along with the Google Maps API. What this script will do is look at the server logs and place eGO members in the city where they connected based on their IP address. No, it won't drop a marker right at your house, just in the center of the city. This information is already available in HLStats, but we are making it easier to get to (and hopefully nicer to look at).
What you do with the information is up to you. For example, I live in Tucson, AZ. I know there are some other eGO members here and I would love to throw a little LAN party at my house. I don't want to seem like a creepy stalker though and send them a PM along the lines of, "Hey, I know you live in Tucson. Want to come over for a LAN party?" The eGO LAN division is perfect for that. I can post an event in the forum, other members of the division can check it and then PM me and say they want to come.
This can also be used as a recruiting tool. Plan a LAN party, get eGO members over there and then have them bring their friends. Show them live and in person what we are all about. Then point them over to the forums and get them to sign up in Sixxgunn's recruiting office.
Don't want to be involved and have your name show up? Don't worry...we are going to have a place where you can opt out of it. Privacy is of the utmost importance to us.
