Let's get some better forums!

So, I don't really know how long vBulletin has been here... I kinda ignored the forums entirely before I joined Tech... But I do know one thing; it is far from a modern solution!

I believe as part of the 13th birthday (belated) of eGO, we should give the forums an overhaul!
InvisionPB Forums or XenForo are great solutions!

I think this is a good idea because it would allow us to start from a clean slate, with brand new permissions, themes, forums, and other features!
If I am being honest, I do not like the way the forums look as of current, and find it to be rather "legacy" feeling. I feel that a good percentage of others might agree.

Consider a new look, it might be just the thing to increase forum activity and overall activity in the community.

It definitely is, but I'm not saying the entirety (or even more than a few people) of tech has to be on this. It would get done faster with more people, but isn't required. From the various feedback I got, it sounds like this is long overdue.

If the only/major issue is that the forum looks outdated, why not just theme it better? would save u a lot of coding work. Will still be a lot of work though.

Themes don't really add that much to the forums. Just a different background and different colours.

Another thing is the leadership roster page, a lot of stuff is outdated. Both the tech team and board of directors are missing people.

I just wanted to address this, I'm pretty sure our leadership roster is up to date. The tech team roster consists of our tech leadership on there and I believe all those guys are listed. As far as the Board of Directors go, that list is 100% up to date. You may see others with Director tags due to the amount of time they've been EGO (i.e Founders like JohnT) but they are not actively part of the Board.

I believe that the end result would speak for itself. Sure, I could save myself a lot of work, and fellow tech. But honestly that's second-rate. Anyone could come with a coding brush and a bucket of updates and start just painting over the old and existing system. And maybe the results will be a masterpiece.

I'm not aiming for what's easy; And neither should you! The proposition definitely isn't a easy project; but the result is a guaranteed(I'm fully comfortable making such a claim, because we wouldn't be releasing it till the claim is made factual) improved system with more than just a coat of paint. Its like trading up your 2010 Truck for a 2018 truck. Sure, a new coat of paint and a tune up will take years off it, but it's still the same old truck. Technology improves! So does forum software.

What I ask is not only entirely achievable, but apparently desired. If you check the results of the poll I made as part of this, it shows that my suggestion has a place for discussion, and maybe it's worth considering deeper.
It is far from a Representative Sample, but I predict that the numbers will hold up.

All of this being said, I can't wait to hear further opinion, and continue to receive feedback in the poll.

As it seems this is out of date, and the CMs have replied saying it would take a lot of work, welcome to make a new suggestion if feel the need.
