Expansion to CS 1.6 as well?

I was wondering, would Edge gamers be interested in expanding to CS 1.6 and have a server that could be converted over?

A lot of people that are still playing 1.6 in this day and age are pretty die-hard CS fans who tend to share a genuine love for the game and just love playing the game just to have fun weather or not they are doing good or not. I definitely can't say that for all 1.6 players, but it seems like a lot more of them than Source, just because that type appreciates the game so much that they have stuck with it for so long.

Source is awesome, but there are just some things you can't experience in it, for example, the popular custom cs_assault maps and de_rats are pretty much non-existent, and just the game play feels different. To this day I still go back to playing 1.6 every now and then.


I was wondering if you guys have ever considered running a 1.6 server. If not, I think it could be a good idea. In fact, I once ran a CS clan and we had two 1.6 servers and 1 source server and the values our clan was based on were very similar to Edge Gamers. It ended up not working out because I just didn't have the time to really get out there and try to recruit and I also couldn't build a website as good as this to base it all off of. Setting up the servers in 1.6 was a breeze and at the time, there were definitely more server mods for AMX mod X in 1.6 than Source.

I personally think it would work out great as Edge Gamers already has an awesome infrastructure and clan base that could definitely support the expansion to another game. Just curious what your guys' thoughts are on this idea and thought I would mention it!

My _unofficial_ answer: I doubt it. eGO's home is really Source games. It makes administration easier because all of the servers run under the same engine and the admin mod runs on all of them.

Yea, and theres definitely big considerations to take into account, but I just thought I would mention the idea anyway.

I don't think such a large clan should be expanding into older games. If anything, once the newer games are settled and growing steadily (CS:S and CoD4) they should look at expanding into the next generation of games.

Also it seems (And yes I do have first hand experience I'm not just making this up) that whenever I play 1.6 or even CZ now which is somewhat often, a lot of the players if you even mention source will just flip on you like you're their worst enemy. It's growing into a very negative group of gamers. It's a good game but it's losing the average playing style people and is dying down to just the die-hard 1.6 fans that are all business about their game. It's too bad really : /

Oh im a 1.6 lover and still think its better than Source and of course we say that only because its true . If someone wants to set up their own server I can help you some since I set up my own box to run a dedicated server with admin plugins and the like for LAN's.
