As of this moment, there is an issue with character names. I just ran into an incident yesterday, I was working with an officer to clear a scene, saw that officer's name was his steam name, not his character name, so later when I went to call that officer over the radio (Teamspeak), I was looking for his steam name to reference, but could not locate him because his teamspeak name was his character name. I now had no way to connect ingame character info with teamspeak communication.

We need to make this process simpler.

I have 2 potential suggestions:

1. We change the system to list players ingame by their ingame character names instead of their steam names
2. We require players to change their steam names to match their ingame names

Either one of these will alleviate the problem we currently have where even though we were given a player's name recently, if we forget the exact name, we can't even reference it because the names listed in the server and teamspeak don't match up.

I think the best solution is solution 1. because it seems like it would be easier to automate name listings in the server than to try and make every new player switch their steam name to their ingame name. A lot of these players are known by their steam name in other games.

Maybe in-game or TS ask what their in game name is and make note? We have steam set in place for admining purposes and showing names will lead to Metagaming. Easy way is to read your police roster and get familiar with your colleagues names. If for some reason that wasn't provided to you, we can get that handed to you soon. You have access to the police forums?

The situations I'm speaking of are for example I was working with "default" yesterday, we were in the middle of a shooting scene, it was a bit chaotic and there was some miscommunication so he had searched one of the individuals and taken them off scene. We needed info on the results of that search, but I only knew him as default at the time. Well, in teamspeak, supervisors get sassy when we don't refer to people by their Unit number or at the very least their name which is understandable because it's an RP server. Unfortunately Default was listed as his ingame name in team speak, so I had no way of knowing which individual in team speak was default because I had already forgotten his name ingame. I'm terrible with names lol

Needless to say it took us some time to track him down to find the results of this search. Situations like this are pretty common. We don't all always work together, like this situation for example, so we won't always know whose who. I understand the need for admins to track via steam name, but in turn, players have no way of tracking an individual down, especially if it WASN'T someone in teamspeak.

I just feel like there has to be a better way to locate people's identities and the ingame background names seems like the simplest solution.

The police roster shows Discord and ingame name, but not steam or teamspeak name. If the roster could be updated with steam names, that could at the very least assist with referencing names for an instance like the one I described above.

Like Summer said, it?s considered metagaming if you were to check someone?s character name via an out of character feature. You can simply ask them for a name/number then contact them on your phone, or ask on the radio who the officer was that searched said person.

If I've already learned the name ingame and I've simply forgotten it, I don't see how that's metagaming.

Cops were once required to have their unit number appended to the end of the steam name for this reason.
