Besides my sporadic postings, I have been absent from PC gaming after Legend hurt my feelings in a private message and I went back into my cave to cry for a few years.

The last Microsoft operating system I used was Windows 7..Besides that, I've been using Linux mainly for my servers, access security, stuff like that.

I just finished my final PC build as of today and I have, of course, have Windows 10.

I was wondering if anyone can help me get familiar with Windows 10. Right now, I believe everything is on a default setting and I was wondering if there was anything I need to specifically look out for, turn off, etc. What's changed since Windows 7? Any privacy issues I need to pay attention to? Stuff like that.

One huge thing to remember is that if you play a lot of PC games, is to disable pointer precision, as this is just mouse acceleration which is bad.
If you want to disable that, its in the mouse settings under additional mouse options
Other than that, not really too much is necessary to change.
Also congrats on the new pc

Ric I highly suggest not signing in with a Microsoft account, thus making it a "local" account. This turns off most of the telemetry stuff.

If you hate voice activation and silly search functions as much as I do, turn off Cortana.

Otherwise that's about it... I just go through the "settings" section and disable anything I deem to not be useful. Most of the crap is solved by not signing in with a microsoft account overall I've felt. You'll see a couple things in there so just be thorough and go section by section through it all.

Runs much better than W7 as a whole for performance, recognizes basically every device out of the box, etc.

Thanks for the advice. I haven't really yet played any PC games..But I plan to play on our CS:GO servers tonight to see how it functions.

Holy crap I turned it off and its so much more free now. I think I might have to turn it back on since Ive been using it for over 4 years now

How does it save me time signing in? It has nothing to do with Windows activation either.

If you login and you have a Windows key linked to your account it will automatically activate it for you. When you go in settings > activation it tells you how it was activated
