I made this suggestion in the BC2 forums.

The only advertisement you see in chat is "We are in need of admins". No explanation on *how* to do it, just that we need them. This is borne out in the BC2 forum messages. (I've been admin here...this organisation has its share of petty power plays and back-office politics that not everyone is suited to)

You should advertise tips and tricks like "For BF tips and tricks, visit EGO" or "To join a really fun community, visit..." "Want to learn all about the AT4? Visit EGO"

Not only is it a boring sterile message, but it's all about a *problem* not about the *fun* we have.

I know that this is a common suggestion because I see it in-game all the time.

I think we overhauled the Source messages some time ago to get away from the idea of advertising that we wanted admins and more about joining the community (At least for some games).

Seems solid to me to move in that direction.

Granted, the BC2 server has been around a very long time... most people who would have visited the site by now, already have or don't want to.

Fortunately it's still populated on a regular basis though. With the pandemic, there are more active BC2 servers than there have been for a couple of years, at least. And there's the inevitable flood of new players when Steam puts it on for 5 bucks. I'm thinking of the new players more than anything, since the last thing most of those folks are thinking about is becoming an admin in a game that's famous but they're really only trying out because of the price. It would be good to hook some of them.

Anyway, I don't know how difficult it is to change if it's been talked about so much already, but I think it would be a good, basic change to the chat interface.

I'm not bitching, wtf!, I'm trying to make a suggestion. Attract people to the community because it's fun, and once you get to know them *then* pitch them on being an admin. Isn't that what you want from potential admins? That they participate in the forums and hang out in TS?

I didn't realise it was such a sensitive subject.
