Roleplaying Riots

Hello everyone,

While it is never our intention to tell people how they are supposed to roleplay, we feel that there are certain situations where we must step in and make a decision for the betterment of the community and the quality of our server. EdgeGamers is accepting of people from all walks of life. We pride ourselves on creating a quality gaming environment that all can enjoy. We also recognize that many of our players use video games as an escape from the darkness that may follow every day life.

It is because of these values that we feel it is necessary to step in and put an end to the rioting roleplay in our server. In the last few days, we've had an increase in twitter spam and an increase in VDM & RDM during riot events that have taken place. This has not only has stressed out the police force in the server, but a healthy amount of the civilian population as well. This has led to many players choosing to log off during these times.

Moving forward, our admins will be instructed to intervene when necessary to maintain a welcoming environment for all players. It is the opinion of the GTA Leadership team that riot or protest roleplay should only occur after a significant in-game event, as in an event that occurred during roleplay in our server.

Thank you so much. Seeing such opportunistic activity in-game for OOC reasons broke my heart.

I ask that you don't remove this post, but I will understand if you decide to do so.

Per eGO policy I try not to be political. My poor humor aside, many of you close to me know my true political positions. But recent, real-life events including the MURDERS of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor (SAY THEIR NAMES), and the issues they highlight go beyond politics and into social justice.

From the bottom of my heart as a Chicano who has seen many of my friends and family of historically disadvantaged backgrounds affected by systemic racism, I ask you all not to stress the server with wishes of riot RP, that isn't what you should be doing. Instead, please look at what many of us are peacefully advocating for IRL. Take whatever peaceful action you can if you truly care, solidarity really helps!

I know many of you don't agree with people like me, but I ask you to understand us and our thinking to your best. All lives can't matter until black lives matter.

If it was all in game terms, does this mean that we would be able to assembly to say, protest the issue of Dakota Rodgers and his holding? I personally still think this is iffy because something, anything can happen to connect it to the "real world" issues we are having now, which could possibly lead to protests/demonstrations being prohibited altogether

There's a clear difference in assembling in honor of Dakota Rogers who was sent to jail versus assembling to complain about police brutality, politics, lack of human rights and all of the other things going on in the world.

Example: Star is protesting the court system standing outside of the courthouse yelling judge is corrupt, down with the courts, down with the system. He's making it about in character matters. It's not about age, gender, race, religious belief, political views, etc. The second we cross into those items your protest will be admined.

There has always been something in game to cover your face. This is a medical mask that is multi-purpose and has been asked for for quite sometime before this virus was even was thought of. Someone finally made the mask "Surgical Mask" on May 20, 2020 so we went ahead and slapped it on for the medics/police/etc to use.
