Ping Help?

I just setup the new pc. running smooth. but my ping is 280+ now. any ideas on help??

Ping isn't related to your computer. It's related to your internet/modem/router/ISP.

You may have to contact your ISP and see if there's something going on with your connection. They can also troubleshoot your modem/router to see if there's any settings there that are conflicting.

It is possible, however, that your computer is doing all the windows updates and that would be a solid reason for a ping issue. Can you determine if that's the case?

TL/DR Ping is a connection issue - not a computer one.

ethernet is way better than wireless in most cases. When i switched from wireless to ethernet my ping improved by like 10 on ego jb and like 30 on csgo servers.

To add to Wahtur, if your setup isn’t close to your router, I actually recommend you get a WiFi extender and run that via ethernet. It would set you back a bit, but I use one and it is dope. Otherwise look at your internet plan and see if you can upgrade!

If you can run a wireless extender by ethernet, why not just run one to your desktop

Do not use wifi extenders. They are absolutely garbage. You'll end up with even worse performance if anything. It's practically a gimmick product to convince you it's going to get better, when it won't.

How far away is your router? What’s the router model and what is your wifi cards model? Is it using external or internal antennas? Do you have the ability to run Ethernet to your computer?

Additionally, if you're wiring your range extender it's an access point, not a wireless range extender. Wireless range extender implies it repeats a wireless signal, which normally means a huge drop off in speed

-Use wired

-Get close to the router

- Make sure its plugged in correctly

- Make sure your not dowloading anything

- Make sure You Turn off background apps as some apps can use wifi

to do this first go to settings > search up background apps > then toggle "Let apps run in the background" to off. (windows 10)

- And am pretty sure recording and/or live streaming take up wifi also.

Is modern powerline good? I remember I used to have a powerline system from like 5-6 years ago that was "rated" for 400mbps but would not get above 40

It's hit and miss. Wiring, interference, etc. Depends on your home wiring, what's on that circuit, etc. Wouldn't run more than 1 in a home.

Anything besides hardwired will result in incredibly differing speeds and will never get what is advertised. Especially wireless.

Powerline has a fair bit of loss in it but is viable for certain people.

Repeaters and extenders are basically 95% loss.
