Since I and many others like to shit post from time to time,

I think eGO forums should add a shit posting section, where we can all just spam stuff and shit post, and then You can make a rule saying "Posts Regarding spam, or immature content is against the rules in all categories except the "shitpost/spam/whatever u guys call it category.".

this is my opinion, Thanks for your time!!!

for me , i just check the most recent posts (in all categories) if i saw 100 new posts that are just spam and useless shit id be annoyed cause i wanna see actual useful content and interesting stuff not random and useless things

The forums have a dreadful number of useless posts as is.

There's no reason to promote this kind of posting and behaviour. It makes us look like a joke when people visit the site.

Like I said on your other post, you should try to actually contribute good discussions to forums.

I actually agree with this one because I've grown to stop checking the forums. This being a reason

just post things with like a little bit of effort xd? like i think we need shoutbox back asap so people can vent there random posting needs

Yeah, HARD -1 on this. The forums need to have one topic discussion as much as possible. Users come here for any important updates, this is the most forward facing object the community has, Members post here frequently for on topic discussion, and Admins rely on these for their duties.

If every new post was shot posts very quickly it would tarnish and dwindle the forums ability to provide.

Now as for:
There seems to be zero interest in anyone moderating the site and keeping it clean.

I pose the question, of who's responsible for it? MS? Media? All Managers? Executives and directors?

It's not very clear. Maybe that's an area where the community in its whole needs to improve? This should be more clear-cut.

hey!

i make high quality shitposts, this is slander. ill be in touch with my lawyer

I do believe though that it is getting out of hand. Some posts are just garbage and don't have business being viewed. However, I don't necessarily believe that general chatter and gaming (where all the shitposts live in) should be moderated 24/7. If you're going to make a joke post, make it high quality. I think @Maruchan understands where I am coming from with that statement, DS Room Transparency, my favorite forum post ever.

In the past, generally speaking, all managers and above looked after the site as a whole. Some generally looked after their own specific game sections, but we all chipped in.

For a while now though no one seems to care at all about stuff being moved to the correct sections, cleaning up dumb spammy type posts, etc. Seems like no one cares. There was never any specific rules or guidelines but it used to be enough people cared that most things got cleaned up fast.

No offence to any current leadership... it's not like anywhere it says they had to, but people used to help and contribute to the forums being clean as a whole.

So I do have to ask, is it really worth the time and effort to check a post to see if it's quality? I mean, I understand if it blatantly broke rules, but I mean, people aren't going to look at eGO's general chatter first to see what's popping, I know I didn't. When I joined, I really never checked the forums unless it was "breaking news" or I had a really shit suggestion.

I think posts like the one last night the OP of this thread made literally just saying "I need to take a shit" should just be straight deleted. We don't need to go through stuff with a fine tooth comb or anything.

Use of forums depends person to person, but if someone wanted to see what our community is like and saw this, it would be pretty rough looking. Hell, it makes me not want to come to the forums when half the posts are a thread title and the body just says "lol" and the only replies are emojis.

We used to be able to hide lots behind the face that the site had the front page, server listings, etc, before you got to the forums. Now your current first impression is what you see right now.

I completely agree with this, but I also don’t blame leadership. Using a completely new website with very limited reasons for any of us to check the forums. Personally I would get on the forums just to look threw random stuff such as awards, awards that were given out and just general random things. Another killer for me is not having a easily accessible recent posts, I would always refresh the forums just to check that and see what new posts were made on the forums. I know we have something similar it just doesn’t feel the same for me at all.

Another thing that’s pretty minor for me is your forum reputation, which the current system is cool just not nearly as incentivizing to make posts on the forums for me.

I get that, I really do (that post was garbage and should be deleted), but what I'm saying is that people rarely find the forums on their own, and even when they do, odds of them caring about the number of shitposts in a general subforum is just low at best.

What I really liked about the old forums is the downvote system where if you made a post and a lot of people didn't like it and downvoted it (for better or for worse), the post was blocked by a message of "This message has received a lot of downvotes, do you want to view it?". I guess we could use the report button, but I don't know who receives those.

I think the biggest issue right now is that there are so many shitposts that we get tired of doing nothing but moderate the posts. There has been a large increase of shitposting the last few weeks and it's just tiresome to do nothing but moderate the posts.

I'm going to have to say no to this suggestion. Some of the shitposts you guys do aren't even shitposts. They're more just a waste of a forum thread when it's a single emoji or just tagging someone's name. There's a difference between shitposting and just wasting everyone's time.

Some of yall need to spend some time to come up with good shitposts. Even the people that actually used to do good shitposts have fallen into the wasted thread category recently. It's disappointing.

IMHO, rather than manager+ handling forum moderation, why not make it a thing for Media? I mean it makes sense, Media's mission is to put forward the best optics possible and show off the community. It would allow them to create a position for forum mods and etc, so long as ur a G+

because that puts a lot of power into the hands of non-LE.

coming from a Media manager, that is in no way a good idea. yes, we are in charge of all things media such as our social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and Twitch) and with the media on the forums like the breaking news articles. but we are not in charge of all the postings on the forums. that is not our authority.

Is it so bad that the community should be able to decide whether a post is a bad shitpost or not? I've seen from Divine and you that it's tiresome to moderate it, and I don't blame you, but why don't we just go by a report basis for it. If a post has multiple reports saying it's garbage, I don't see why an O can't just be able to delete the post and write why it was deleted.

The "too much power" argument just fails to register because not only can you train every O on using the power, you could also throw demotion as a punishment into the mix. We trust them enough to moderate game servers, but not being able to remove a bad shitpost is where we draw the line? It wasn't long ago we thought eG's shouldn't be able to ban people and look at how well that has worked out. I understand if it's infeasible to make it work with permissions and stuff like that but too much power? I don't agree with that.

that's the thing. it is all permission based. in order to have the forum moderation power, there would be a lot more access given. that's where the too much power comes into play. it wouldn't just be the ability to moderate forum posts.
