Recently, there was a discussion in the Community Meeting post about some concerns between Discord and Teamspeak, I share some concerns when it comes to Discord vs TS, I personally prefer TS for Desktop and Discord for Mobile. Each side has it's ups and downs.

This is a formal suggestion thread to allow for discussion to prosper which will eventually end in a formal response, due to the way that the last discussion went down, I'd ask you guys to be civil, people have opinions, They are entitled to them. The point of discussion is to discuss the topic, not the people.

We will discuss this on Saturday. Please do continue your discussions.

Another point to make:
If we're doing this for the convenience of the new members whats the point in having the long time members around if youre not gonna listen to what we all want ? majority of this thread answers that they like TeamSpeak better and prefer it. I get we're looking at all aspects but if youre not gonna consider what the majority of your committed members want, whats the point ? We all adapted to the TeamSpeak meetings and how this community works as new members. shouldnt the new members now do that ? Why are we adapting to them rather than them adapt to how we are and how we work as a community ? The whole point of the community meetings are to keep the members up to date. Why are we not listening to the actual members on what they want if this meeting is for the members of the community. Newer members are hesitant with TeamSpeak, yes, but its just because it takes some getting used to. You adapt to using it and grow to realize its perks.
And im not saying dont try to appeal to ALL members new and old. Im saying literally almost everyone in this thread says teamspeak. why are we not listening to them when they have been around longest and have been involved for a long time. And yeah sure us old members can adapt to switching to Discord, but overall, Teamspeak is just so much better for all these reasons. Discord is not built for big communities like us and yall are just making it more difficult on yourselves to be hosting them in Discord.
Additonally, talk power. Something that is not as simple in discord as it is teamspeak. it allowed for a much easier conversation. Much easier to interact and discuss things as a community. You can request talk power and be granted it so much more easier which allows for better communication. I dont know why were making this more difficult for ourselves than it has to be.
I’ve read all the responses to this thread but I decided to single yours out.

The reason we’ve tried to adopt Discord for clan wides is that new users can easily connect and get situated in seconds. Teamspeak takes longer. It’s harder for us to go onto our servers and say “hey guys, join our clan wide meeting, but first download this program and then follow this 8 step guide!”.
Nowadays, we just say, “hey guys join our clanwide meeting, here’s the discord link, join channel (whatever)”.

We use Discord strictly for clanwides because the clanwide is all about getting our message across to as many people as possible. Discord is the easiest way to get 120 people in a room and explain where we are headed, and potentially convince some new people too.

Discord has issues, no rank/voice chat sorting is frustrating. Not being able to easily identify Managers from pubs is beyond infuriating, but Discord is just easier for people to get into, and ultimately, we have to go where the trend is in certain scenarios. Relying on “we’ve always done it this way, so it works” mentality is exactly how most community’s die.

I do believe that discord may be easier, though it's lack of some more used functions for clanwides are a slight bit annoying. Mainly I'm talking about recording/publishing of meeting audio, lack of visible LE without special knowledge, and requesting talk power. I know you covered the visible LE part, so I'm not going to bore people. I think that Teamspeak does a really good job with recording audio without an external program, and I know people record the meetings but we don't have an archive of all the meetings. The youtube channel has some, but not all of them available. I also recall using a bot to do talk power in one of the last meetings where we had to restrict the general chat because it got so scuffed. I think teamspeak's single chat channel is better for meetings and such so we don't have to moderate every single channel on discord, plus talk power is handled easier through their request system.

Overall I guess you can pull from everything I've said is that I want a recorded archive of the clanwides from this point so people who choose not to use whatever platform we decide on to get the news. I don't really care which one we use, though I prefer Teamspeak I feel semi-comfortable on discord.

Additionally, one major advantage for both pubs and members is discord mobile.

TS mobile on IOS cost 5 dollars, and is no where near as well developed as discord mobile

If people want every single meeting recorded, we can get an archive started for sure. It hasn't been requested by many so I wasn't sure that it was wanted by most

When i was new i found the recordings super helpful

And a post summarizing in point form any announcements and news. I can’t listen to an hour of people talking and want my news in 30 seconds.

I'm pretty sure we used to do it a while ago, but it would just be nice to have everything documented with community meetings especially so people don't have to hunt down a recording from someone.

This would be nice as well.

Last I’ve heard, typically if we post a recording we don’t do notes. If we are doing notes, then we usually don’t record

Or we could just change discord nicknames to reflect ranks...

Looking through the responses I see a bunch of great discussions and points, so figured I would contribute my own.

Personally, I much prefer teamspeak for voice than discord, its cleaner, and much easier to see who is speaking, and who wants to speak.

However, this is only because I was forced into using Teamspeak for this sole reason. EdgeGamers is the only Teamspeak server I ever join, which made it inconvenient for me as a pub to initially join and interact with the community.

This being said, I believe Discord, as long as it is the more popular overall platform, is the best choice for us to host critical meetings such as our monthly community meetings.

Why? Similar to what Arbiter said, the community meeting is about reaching as many people as possible. Judging from the responses on this post not a single person will not attend strictly because of the platform it is on, however, I don't think it is unreasonable that pubs would be particular about the platform. Going off what Arbiter said once again, our goal is getting the most pubs/overall players in on these meetings, so if lowering the barrier to entry is possible, it should be taken full advantage of.

To summarize, as a member of eGO, all of you will most undoubtedly go to the meeting whether it is on Teamspeak or Discord, so if Discord is easier for the majority of pubs, then it only makes sense to accommodate those who aren't willing to learn a foreign platform.
