cpu heating up

hey guys, need some help here, my cpu, for awhile now the usage is like around 50% right now, and its usually around like maybe 10 to 30 when im doing something, but the thing is, i havent done anything so far, or anything to make it go up that high, it also happened when i was playing mass effect last week, went all the way to 100%, right now i have a fan over it and cooling it down. so i wonder if any of you know what the problem might be. im thinking it could be the heat, because its like 86 degrees here in ny, that might be it, but im not really sure though. right now the usage is like 50 and jumping to 100 every now and then. i have no idea what the problem is :/

ps: like a week ago, my cousin was over, and that idiot downloaded the program that mainly everyone know not to download, zango. he wanted to watch some shows online, and it needed that, and he installed without my approval, and now ever since then, i been having some troubles with my computer. my firefox, every time i go to tools - options, i cant press the ok button, and every time i open firefox, its like its at default, and its getting really annoying. i also notice that when i install things, its longer to copy onto to my back up drive. and when i try to send things over my back up drive, some times it doesnt work, and when i do get it to work, it takes a while. so is there anything that i can clean my computer up to double check nothing is left behind by that zango program? i have trend micro, but i dont think it got everything.

you should be able to start it up in safe mode, and run a virus and spyware check in there. if you do not know how to get into safe mode, just post it back up or pm me, ill be glad to help you from there

if i get that kind of problem i just reboot my comp, cuz for me idk why, antivirus programs never get rid of a virus 100%

i believe he probably has, and it keeps doing it... and in safe mode, it only runs the critical system files, other than that, no drivers, or anything just genaric stuff gets loaded... really easy to get rid of spyware/virus

what kind f virus scaner should i use? my trend micro wont its in safe mode for some reason :/

and yea, its so much better in safe mode, im kind of having a hard time starting up my computer now, and even when i type something as simple as a post online, it lags while i do it :/

also, when i turned on my computer and check my ram usage, before it started with only 800mb, now its about 1.25 gb of ram usage, so i think that might be a factor to what is wrong. any other ways i can get rid of this thing?

I would try Spybot S&D to check for spyware/malware, and I personally use Avast! for antivirus. You can try multiple free programs out there and they will go through most of what could be the problem.

1) Go into your bios and look for a hardware health monitor that will display your CPU temperature, if it's over 45-50C you are definitely running hot.

1b) If you're cpu is too hot, consider reapplying with artic silver thermal paste (5-15 USD) but if it isn't, don't worry about it.

2) Use CCLEANER, and Spybot to clean up your computer if you wish.

My main concern is that you don't actually say anything is wrong. If you are consistently looking at your cpu usage and the only problem you have is it seems to be high, that's not really a problem. If you are experiencing any more lag or problems than usual, then I would consider that there may be a problem. But don't get worked up if your cpu is at 100% capacity while running Firefox.

but this never happened before until recently, which is after my cousin downloaded the program zango. but i think its settled down now, not over heating anymore, i went back to avg, and now it was ok, trend micro didnt work for me, so im going to just give it to my cousin, make him pay for it too

I had some realy big troubble about a month ago with my vista, amd64, 2gb ram. I couldnit open explorer without it getting all laggy and it took about 5minutes just to load up the background. The two things that work for me to get rid of that things are ether to open CCleaner to remove some programs and a few unnessesary startup from the registry or to use Vistas recovery back about 2weeks.

This will prolly don't really help much but, in your BIOS (press del on startup) check if your cpu cooler is at it's highest rpm... mine gets +-60?C when gaming @ med fan speed

well, thanks for the tips guys, need help again, its the fire fox again.

every time i start it up, it goes to its own homepage, and the settings always reset whenever i reopen it. at first it was fine, then it started to annoy me when a pop up comes every time i go to a site warning me. any words of wisdom for whats happening to my fire fox?

sounds like a pop up blocker problem. This could be an activeX thing or just a generic popup block problem.

1. You can change the the warning messages you receive from firefox---- goto tools---options---security--- settings button--- then disable or enable the warnings you want and dont want.
2. you can also just change your homepage to a different site as well. goto tools----main--- type in page you want in the homepage box.
3. If its just a generic pop up blocker problem you can disable your firefox pop up blocker( not recommended) by going to tools--- options- content-- click on pop up blocker.


P.S. those 3 should fix your problem. if not then its an activex thing. Which i am not too good at configuring so hopefully someone else will be able to help you out if that is the case

you know the ok button for the options window? every time i try to press the ok button, it wont close, it wont do anything. sorry if i didnt get specific, i have tried to change it countless times before you posted, and no go. every time i close fire fox, the settings are back to default. same two start up pages, and the settings resets. i have no idea why it is like that. :/

new problem now, my winamp keeps closing on me now -.- i can ope it, play like 1 or 2 songs, and then it shuts off. and the message comes up of something that happened to it.

i dont really know what it is. everything just started like 2 days ago. something is up with my computer.

edit: never mind, got it fixed, and got me self a new ver XD

but the other problem still stands with my firefox
