Discussions on role of snipers

Like in world of warcraft when a druid convokes you. Just interrupt it. As if that's any sort of excuse to be instantly deleted in less than a global before you can react
Some would say the idea that you're supposed to not be able to react is exactly why we wanted it in the first place.

Im hoping that by us taking this stance on sniper rifles, blizzard will finally nerf convoke into the ground

Some would respond that thats exactly why its being phased out.
some would say thats unrealistic. getting into a car accident where another car tbones you out of nowhere doesnt give you time to react. should it? sure. does it? no.

We're not a realism server, we're a serious roleplay server. Snipers primarily facilitated anti-roleplay practices, even if their power was realistic.
Serious implies realism. Actions having consequences is the same thing that happens in real life. Cars follow the 40 MPH speed limit in the city with the soft upper bound of 80 MPH because it's realistic to not go above that unless a situation requires it.

Removing the sniper rifle removes roleplay potential. Just because it's been used primarily in bad RP (which is the keyword here, everything on the server is RP, the only time it's not is when it goes OOC) does not mean it can't be used for good RP. You get sniped? Tough luck. Life happens. Is it out of your control? Sure. RP does not always have to be in your control.

I got ran over by a crim doing 110+ MPH on the HWY to Sandy. It sucks but I'm not going to go hunt for blood. It's out of my control, I just called EMS and waited because while it was shitty RP, it's realistic that someone would be doing 110+ MPH and while they hit me and killed me, I'd do the same thing and run away from the scene because you'd be detained.

Removing the sniper rifle isn't removing roleplay potential; it is removing the ability to stifle roleplay by executing people without possible reaction. Outside of the ability to instantly delete anyone in line of sight, its other roleplay uses (if it has any) should still be discussed for possible alternatives. Sniper rifles are being phased out.

As for that third paragraph, that sounds pretty anti-roleplay. Speeding without reason, running someone over, and fleeing the scene without any further action doesn't do anything to promote the roleplay of others.

While both may be realistic, they do not qualify as serious roleplay. At some level, it will be grounded in realism, but serious roleplay is not 1:1 realistic roleplay.

it promotes RP with EMS when they have to revive me. it promotes RP with PD when i report a speeding car. it promotes in character development by looking both ways before crossing a highway.

sometimes, you're not supposed to be able to react. however, you're always supposed to be able to control how you fix it.

Agree to disagree. Stifling someone's ability to respond and effectively forcing them down a singular path that fits your agenda is powergaming.

Hello just dropping this. The best RP sniper RP I have ever done was with a fake sniper. Basically, I just rped it

snipers in the purge weren't even fun, imagine how un fun they are in an RP server. I'm for this change, but I wish it came with a changelog to notify the general player who doesn't check the forums.

I am a long term player on the server and have spend loads of time as a police officer and a criminal. The point of roleplay is to interact with other people and have fun. The sniper rifle removes the interaction between players and nobody enjoys being shot out of nowhere. And even when you do talk, its usually 1 line being said and then the shot is taken, which again takes away the roleplay.
Now of course there are people that can do good RP with a sniper rifle, BUT the majority of players simply abuse the weapon, resulting in an admin sit, or a general loweffort RP scene.
As a criminal, when you do get into a "war" or shootout, the point is to have fun. And most people dont like getting oneshot, or two shot by someone that is barely involved in the scene.
Second, its really hard to track for the police who generally show up way later on scene and the RP most criminals provide is not in depth, and we can barely do any investigating.
And if its a bank robbery for example, its generally just: Crim inside the bank: Let us leave or our sniper shoots us. Police: can't let you leave without giving us hostage. Crim 2: Shoots cop with sniper. End of scene.
Which is boring as hell for the police, and IMO its boring as a criminal to.
Now, this is the general expierence for most people that have played for a while, and whilst it may seem the decision is ridiculous because you do good RP with it, most people dont.
In conclusion, most of the times the sniper does not benefit RP hence the decision to remove it, which I agree with
PS: this is still pritty much a summary of most thinks i've seen with a sniper because otherwise im writing a 12 page essay
PPS: ATM 2k hours playtime < just to show you, i know what im talking about. and if you want any further discussion with me, feel free to DM me: Marcoboy24#6085

To the people saying why supercars aren"t nerfed: We have a 80 mph rule in the city, and you're also not supposed to go mach speed on the highway.

Is it too late for me to say rifles (AKs, Carbines, etc) have a max hit range of 500m?
Snipers had a range of 1500m. You cant really even see players after like 500m moving if I recall? They just teleport around at that range.

What if I changed snipers from 1 damage to 1500m range tasers? <insert KEK here>
