- interlopers.net - tutorials, articles, forums, etc... they have tutorials for specific games, modeling, texturing, more... be sure to check the optimization guide on the tutorials page, should help explain when and where to use hints/areaportals/etc. very helpful guide for beginners and even more experienced mappers that overlook the importance of optimizations in maps.
- noesis interactive dvd's - the advanced source level design dvd from them is a good resource to have if you want to get into mapping and cover all your bases
