O boy I could tell ya a ton about my Insight (now Comcast) problems. As a Computer and Information Tech. major I completely relate to you. I ended up finishing this past year at college with Verizon DSL 3Meg because I needed the reliability. Watch out when ordering Verizon bc they told me that 7.1Meg was available and I was paying that price even though I was only getting 3Meg and they tried to say that I was getting billed correctly... Never ending battle. I'm going back to Comcast when I get back to college. They bought Insight and I hope that they fixed all of Insights issues now.

They had routing issues where parts of campus went through the same routing as neighborhoods making the connection horrible during peak hours. Also the box outside our apartment complex doesn't work right so when the weather changes our internet drops frequently. Insight wouldn't allow their employees to order new equipment to fix their known problems which would have fixed our speed issues. As soon as Comcast took over bam! The speed got a lot better because they were allowed to buy any equipment deemed necessary to make the performance better.

-- Bottom Line --
Verizon for reliability, some speed depending on your area.
Comcast for speed, but look out may have connection problems.

Anybody like their DSL?

I'm sorta alright with mine. I don't get the speeds they advertise (obviously) - but over all it works. I'd love cable, but budget is tight right now, so I'm stuck with what I can afford ;-) Well, that and it's Brighthouse down here for cable, and they suck!

I don't have DSL. I have a local company called "SureWest." They have fiber optic lines in the area. I get 10 megabit up and down and could get 50 if I wanted to pay for it. Dangerdad drools when he visits.

I'm happy with my Comcast Cable. I'm locked into a 2 year contract because it's business class (I need a static IP). It was the fastest speed they had available. I have zero other Internet options here except dialup. In the last 7 months, I've only had one 20 minute downtime that I know about. Also, because it's the Business Class, I supposedly have bandwidth/traffic priority over any neighbors that might have cable as well.

Usually my upload speed is a bit faster, there must be some traffic on my server.
