XBOX 360 vs. PS3

xbox 360.
360 has a failure rate of 33%. which means 1 in 3 systems will in some point of its life will need to be repaired by microsoft, and if you recall a story earlier this year of a young man who hd an autographed 360 washed down when he pleeded with them not too, their not a reliable company. the ps3 however has a failure rate of 3%. now hopefully my paycheck will be big enough this weekend for a ps3 and GTA4.
I have all three consoles, and the one that gets more usage is the PS3. Online works great, and it's free. Update 2.40 will add in-game XMB support (open up the PS3's menu in game), Trophies (achievements), and other great things. This patch is coming out this month ^^. I just got Battlefield Bad Company on the PS3 and it's great. Works great online.
May I ask why you think it's horrible?

You should get a PS3. I, too, have it, and it's awesome. I'm not being bias. The graphics are more extremely good than 360. Yeah, 360 has SOME good games, but PS has a lot more good games.
360 - Halos, Gears Of Wars, Saint Rows.
PS3 - Tekken, Kingdom Hearts, METAL GEAR SOLIDs, NBA's, Resistance, GTA's, a lot more.

For me, I had to make "THE DECISION" recently, I went with xbox360.
Why?
PS3 - hard to get the 80GB version (in store and online, which has the ps2 backward compatibility). But the backwards compatibility is borked you say, well, it works generally for a few hundred titles (and I don't have PS2), which would have greatly expanded the playability of the console.
Xbox - better price, most games are shared between xbox and ps3 (very few exclusives). More people have it, which means more people are online playing games on it.

I just want to mention shadohutner that on your bullet point "Performance" - how many of what processor doesn't really matter unless you're writing a compiler to go along with your game. There are some extremely useful extensions that many game developers are used on the xbox (such as directx, etc. ) but IBM's compilers will compile to the code in such a way as to make the "best use" of the PS3s many processors.
edit: I do believe the compiler handles minimal auto threading but that would be the most difficult part for the programmer.

360's failure rate is a null and void point now. Microsoft extended the warranty for 2 years.
I got the ring of death. Not a big deal, sent it in, got it back in two weeks. All postage payed for along with the shipping box. And it's not like i missed it much with my PC games to hold me over.
I strongly recommend the 360 over the PS3. As mentioned before, game selection. PS3 simply does not have as many or as many good games as the 360. The only game it has is MGS4. PS3 graphics are slightly better, but hardly noticeable unless put side to side and you really nit-pick.

I have a Wii, 360, and PS3. Over all of them, I have to choose the 360.
Simply put, I love the whole interface. What a relief that Microsoft wasnt lazy and decided to create a colorful new interface instead of using the old PSP's one right?
The games. Whoever made that post saying that the PS3 has a bigger variety of games needs to do a double check. Whenever you see an advertisement for a console videogame on the TV, you can almost always be sure that in the bottom of the screen you'll see a 360 logo.
Now about the error rate, all of those errors only happened in the beginning of the shipments when the 360's were manufactured poorly with the hardware error. When I had my red rings of death (just to let you know, I bought my 360 in the first month, so unknowingly I was bound to get this error) I called up Microsoft customer support, I was connected quickly, and the next day I shipped out my 360 to get it fixed in a mere couple of weeks.
Now I'm not trying to change anyone's mind, but in my opinion, the 360 is better.

I got the PS3 the 2nd month it was released, when there was 10 games and not many people playing it. Let me tell you, it has really improved since back then. I have the 60gb hard drive since it was released, and it has not failed on me. My cousin has a 360, and I talked to him earlier and he said he has had to trade it in for a new one once, because it overheated. He has had his 360 for 6 months before he had to trade it in. He has had his current one with no problems for a year and a half.
It is also very easy to get the 80gb version, from practically anywhere. You can go to best buy/circuit city and you can find it there. Also I believe that they have some in stock on amazon and newegg.

i like xbox 360, i am saleing mine though because im not a huge game console fan, bought it for a few games i liked, but i'd rather keep upgrading on a computer than buying extra games for it.
i've played ps3 several times, graphics are a bit better, but not amazingly noticeable
and the 3 rings of death.. .. that was ALONG time ago, not gonna happen now.. i have the halo 3 edition xbox 360 ( only bought it cuz it was green haha, was like $100 xtra), and have had no problems with it overheating or anything ever.
