Viacom sues Google for Copyright Infringement, wins.

Good luck to Viacom taking down Google, or getting anything outta this. You know, Google, the largest company on the web? Yep viacom, that's them.

The truth is that this is a PR disaster for Viacom, but easily Googles most impressive PR win. Basically this is still fallout from when the TV network threw a hissy fit over shows showing up on the web. After Google baught out Youtube Viacom either sued Google; or Google picked up the lawsuit with its purchase.

Fast forward to a few days ago; an idiot Judge rules in favore of Viacom. The reason why the judge is an idiot is on top of awarding Viacom what it wanted, he piled on a whole bunch of crap that was not requested. Such as IP address & user names.

Already Viacom and google have agreed that no IP address or user names should change hand, but the damage is done. Viacom is now protrayed to the evil corporate entity and Google as the internet's "Knight in Shining Armor". While I'm not the big fan of Viacom, nor am I a big fan of restraining content on the web. I have to place the blame on the Judge whose ignorance my have set a very scary precedent.

Anyway thats my 2 cent; you know from some one who has broken numerous copyright laws himself.

I think Viacom has the right to complain and get their copyrighted material off the internet if they don't want it there, but going and demanding IP addresses and viewing history is a bit much. Viacom kinda messed up with that part.

What I got from that is that they're trying to show that copyrighted stuff gets viewed more than non-copyrighted stuff so they can demand even more from Google. This is Viacom trying to get as much mileage out of this lawsuit as they can.

I hope Google appeals and crushes them in court.

wow, this is bull crap, they better not ban anyone, or fine anyone for uploading copyrighted videos after this crap is over.

but whats the big deal? honestly almost everybody on youtube has put copyrighted material on youtube. If people like Metallica haven't complained about this yet then there's no big deal about it (anybody that knows some metallica history should get what I'm talking about here)

and since i have copyrighted material on youtube, im praying they don't do any of that crap i mentioned before
