Good evening everybody I present to you possibly the best suggestion known to the Edgegamers forums. I believe that during late hours of the night a new set of rules be allowed after hours (11pm-4am) weekdays (10pm-5am) weekends. This new set of rules basically would be much more relaxed to certain types of jokes and language used on the server. This would allow older members of the community to have a greatly enhanced experience on the server while younger members (under 18) would be nearly completely absent. This idea is not new and has been used by numerous other communities such as Tango World Wide to great success. The only downside that I can see is that this would place much more subjective thought to the admins online during these hours as completely blatant racism, disrespect , and freekilling would still be unacceptable, however, a more relaxed administration during the hours where most members are assumed to be eighteen years or older would allow for a much more entertaining and positive experience for everybody online. I believe that this would attract many new members to the servers and bring many back that have left or stopped playing due to the stringent rule sets that are currently present on the server. Members of the servers that do not want to play with the more relaxed rule set and would be upset by increased use of foul language and freekills could easily play during the more active hours of the server. The average player count during the hours that I have suggested is usually low (less than 15) and I believe that it could become much higher with a much more relaxed rule set. Many people who want to have a more relaxed experience on the servers would be online during these hours and the younger members are usually not present. I believe that this idea would be an overall net positive for the server and attract many more players to the server during hours that are currently least attractive.
Obviously more discussion is needed this issue but I believe with it being properly implemented many if not all players would have a much better experience.

I agree that the suggestion of implementing a more relaxed set of rules during late night hours on the Edgegamers jailbreak server could potentially enhance the experience for older members of the community. As you mentioned, this approach has been successfully implemented by other communities, and it could potentially attract new players and bring back old ones who may have left due to the strict rule sets.

However, as you also noted, the subjective nature of deciding what is acceptable during these hours may pose a challenge for the admins. It's important to have a clear and consistent framework for enforcing these rules to ensure that everyone feels safe and respected while playing on the server.

Overall, I believe that this suggestion has merit and could potentially be a positive change for the community. Further discussion and careful planning would be necessary to ensure that the implementation is fair, consistent, and well-received by the majority of players.

I wholeheartedly concur with you! That sounds like a terrific idea to put in place a more lax set of restrictions on weekdays and weekends during the late hours of the night. It makes obvious that senior members would want a more laid-back attitude, while younger members who are normally absent during those hours would be shielded from objectionable material. I think that this new rule set could draw a lot of new players and entice those who have left because of the current strict rules to return, even though there might be some subjective judgment required of admins during those hours as long as overt racism, disrespect, and freekilling are still prohibited. The fact that players who favor the existing rule set can still play during the server's busier times ensures that everyone can enjoy the game they prefer. I believe that this is a good idea that might significantly improve the server experience for many gamers.

What about Europeans? I often play during those hours and have encountered many younger players from Europe during that time (Mr. god for example).

For stuff like this I think admin discretion is important. If the player is new and clearly just made a simple mistake then it should be handled as such. On the contrary, if it's obvious that the player is there simply to cause trouble then admins shouldn't be as lenient. The cool thing about admin discretion as that it can contain many factors, including the time of day.

While there are a few underage Europeans that play during the hours I have suggested, most players during the hours are more mature and would benefit from more relaxed rules.

I think that setting and publicly making a set of times that are "more relaxed" on the rules would tend to allow some questionable people to start trying to push the limits of what's acceptable and then citing "it's the lax rule hours!" as defense would be more difficult on admins. Time zones also exist.

Hard to say it's only adults on at that time when I spent so many hours of my youth up until the early hours of the AM awake online, and sleeping during school. That was during years where people didn't have gaming laptops too ;)

I do think if the server is clearly full of adults at those hours and having a good time while not pushing any degree of racism / sexism / jokes in very poor taste, then admins should already be using their discretion on making sure the server doesn't push itself into a dark territory, but maintaining a fun atmosphere. It's not hard to do. I fully understand how fast a killjoy can send everyone packing up to another server.

Perhaps this is more something we can discuss amongst admins about not over-admining and "reading the room" a bit, as opposed to defined times and secondary rulesets.

I am generally more lax during "late night" hours. I don't think it's necessary or a good idea for this to become an "official" thing. As Simon Simon very well put it, I think admin discretion and reading the room should more or less cover what this suggestion entails.

We also wouldn't want to have to deal with player reports and having to think "well what time of day was this".

Our rules should remain consistent regardless of what time of day it is. Enforcement should remain up to discretion.

No.
As discussed already, Admins have the ability to use their discretion for the rules. They are able to “bend the book” on certain rules when they don’t need to enforce them. The “mood of the server” is taken into account with that. Simon and MSWS already covered that.
That being said, the rules don’t change. Changing them to “certain times of the night” would be nothing but disruptive. “Oh I forgot what time it was” would become a common place excuse.

Regardless, the server is PG-13. “Time of Day” isn’t going to be a deciding factor for those relevant rules. The argument of “no younger players on at night” is moot because we would never know who is actually on (and in this day and age less and less accurate as a whole) and puttting a “sudo-dark hours” on the server would be harmful to the image and community we try to support.

Maybe a different way to think about it is to make the server R rated during the proposed after hours rather than PG-13. The current rule is already conflicting with itself as there is a literal cock in one of the maps which does not align with the current idea that the server should be PG-13. Allowing that principle while still enforcing the rules are in place would allow admins to have more leniency and give way the players on the server online during the proposed times to have a way better experience. Sure, younger players would still be allowed online during the night as the server currently does not have any age verification process. There are still many players who go on the servers that are not the current allowable age, but little to no action is taken.

While I agree late night due to lower populations and such can call for a more relaxed atmosphere, but generally this "relaxed" nature doesn't apply to universal rules such as disrespect, language use, etc. It only applies to server rules, like what wardens can and can't do. But even still, this is up to admin discretion if they are okay with allowing such things to happen at lower pops. I think an "official" rule change for late-night would be unprofessional and could cause issues, especially when you gave the example of disrespect rules and such being relaxed on.

Again, I do not think universal rules (rules that apply across the entire community such as disrespect, political talk, etc.) should be relaxed on. I do think it's okay for server rules (jailbreak-specific for example) could potentially be relaxed, but is at admin discretion.

Overall I think this is not a good idea but I appreciate your time and effort into writing this up.

It's a lot more relaxed at night obviously and not a lot of rules are implemented at night since it's late and unless someone has a major problem or multiple people complaining about stuff. It's a lot more chillax, and when I'm on the server with like 10-15 people I am A LOT more lenient and I usually let CTS off with a warning if it's a real problem. A lot of people find it fun and etc etc, I think this would be a good implement as long as there wasn't like disrespect, and general rules like language and abusive chats. But unfortunately, knowing some people there would be a lot of taken advantage of here, but I think the late nights are doing well as they are now because most admins just have their own discretion at night. Which doesn't lead to a lot of problems usually, but yeah either way it's about admin discretion at most so yeah! I love replying to stuff like this and listening to other peoples' ideas.

During late hours with lower server population, our admins frequently use discretion on enforcing minor server specific rule violations, such as a freekill. However, we have community rules, Code of Conduct, that is enforced regardless of play time or player count.

This is not something that will be implemented.
