I'm not but my son is and he's amazed at how many ppl are getting into it just now.

He's played since the 2nd grade and he just finished his freshman year at Iowa State University.

Oh, and his rating is around 1200...not sure which system.

And his favorite opening is CHECKMATE IN THREE...the noobs don't even know!

I don't actually play now, but many years ago, when I was in elementary school (4th Grade), I used to be in the Chess club! (For those of us that didn't want to play violin at the time) it was an alternate class, but it ended up being an after-school club the next year.

A little story that happened; there was this kid on the playground that would wash everyone in Chess. Not a single kid could beat this guy, until I sat down to play him. It turned out to be the most epic chess game ever, almost the entire playground stopped to watch this Chess match. I ended up beating the kid by a very close margin, and it actually was the start of our friendship!

I stand corrected! My son's favorites are:

4 Kings for White and
French Defense for Black

not sure if those are openings or strats?

Im not sure what the 4 kings could be, there are only 2 kings on the board 😂 the french defense is a legit opening👍

Yes, those are both openings in chess. If your son is interested in these, then you can recommend the following resources:

Hey, I'm not part of the eGO chess crew, but I'm all about chatting up some chess strategies! See, chess has always been a part of my life. Growing up, I'd spend hours playing against my dad, learning new tricks and tactics. But lately, I've been exploring different gaming avenues, and spider solitaire has been my latest obsession.
Found this dope online version, and let me tell you, it's been a game-changer. There's something about the simplicity and strategy of spider solitaire that's just so addicting. But hey, when it comes to chess, I've always been partial to the Sicilian Defense. It's like my go-to move, you know?

I'm a big fan of chess! I play a lot on different platforms, including mathplayground. It's a great way to keep my brain sharp. Any other eGO members here who enjoy a good game of chess? Let's connect!
