I wanted to bring this to everyone's attention and get opinions on this matter.

I was beside the blue toy block with the "Y" on it when I started getting burned. The weird part was, there was no one around me! I backed up and this is what I saw.

The shadow in front of me is an engineer, below in the tunnel building a sentry gun. A couple of seconds later, another pyro started burning the roof of the tunnel and you could actually see the flames come out of the floor. You are not able to see who the person is that is burning the roof, just a shadow.

Obviously this was not meant to be done when the map was created, but other then putting out messages saying " stop burning the roof of the tunnel" how can we enforce this? Even if this is enforceable.

They could just simply spray and pray. They don't have to know, just keep firing is all.

The shadows sometimes work both ways. Hammer saw the engie's shadow from underneath, it's entirely possible that the pyro was watching Hammer's shadow from down there.

I went down into the tunnel and looked up but never saw anything. Not 100% sure if someone ever ran above me or not. It could possibly work both ways.

you can frequently see shadows from players either behind, underneath, or over walls/floors/ceilings. Ive seen this tons of times on a bunch of different maps. Getting burned through the floor is probably working the same way as burning through the gates. No way to enforce anything though I don't think

my 2 cents on this is if you catch the guy that does any kindof gate killing like this i would do a global warning then actually kick the guy right after that. I would not Ban him right away but i think this kind of action demands kick without warning. The global warning is mostly for everyone else in the server to know not to shot people through gates or walls. As to me it is an exploit. just my 2 cents on these issues.

It is likely your client glitched and was either not displaying his model or was displaying his shadow out of place. It's pretty common, regardless of the map.

I second this. I have had this happen to me on 2fort, but was taking no real damage. I also commonly have my pyros flame throwing act like it's shooting perpetually when it is in fact off.

Acctually, it is more then likely that it was known to the pyro that he could shoot through the floor there. This glitch is common on a few maps, including goldrush where it is a number of places.

maybe this should be tested out sometime? I have burned from the bottom and I can't tell if it goes up or not, my flames don't show up completely, telling me they're going up but I'm not sure.

I had this same thing happen to me. Not sure if it was an error like someone said or if it was underneath.

This happened to me twice lastnight. Set on fire and killed by pyros in the tunel underneath.
I treat it just like shooting through the the gates during setup, warn the first time then kick.

You can hear when you hit a peron with flame, it makes a nice crisping noise.

Therefore, it is possible that the pyro sprayed for a while, and then followed the noise

So it seems like there are conflicting explinations... is it a map exploit or a bug with the client as Lafinass said?

***how you light on fire is an exploit! the pyro can shoot you from under the tunnel. i globaly warn then kick anyone caught.***

I noticed this on toyfort the other day. The designer should just have buried the tunnel farther below the rest of the map. Glitchers of all kinds disgust me.

Eh, I see shadows alot when I am under people like on toyfort. I havent ever burned up, but i can tell where people are whenI see these shadows. I( always figured it was a glitch in the coding.

As for burning thru the floor, it seems extremely common since the pyro update. Starting to wonder if Valve is leaving it intentionally since we havent had a fix for it in like 3 weeks.

I think it seems extremely common now because pyros are now extremely common, not because it was a recently introduced bug. Before the update, I occasionally had pyros destroy my turrets on the bridge of 2Fort from the water underneath.

This is what makes me squeamish about playing custom maps now. Some of them may have a few texture issues and interesting things may occur from them. I'd really hate to nitpick on this one, though.
