Hello everyone! I was just wondering, how many of you folks like to play tabletop games?
I am referring to role-playing games like Dungeons and Dragons, Vampire the Masquerade, Pathfinder, etc.

For those that role-play,
  • do you guys like doing longer campaigns or do you prefer one-shots; tightly packed narratives in short and sweet bursts?
  • Do you guys prefer playing old-fasioned with pen and paper, or do you use virtual tabletop systems like Foundry, Roll20, Tabletop Simulator?
  • Do you chance playing with strangers, or do you stick with friends you know?

( Bonus Points from me if you're an augmented CyberPunk in the slums of Night City ;D I'm still building my first campaign for CyberPunk RED )

I'm also curious how many of you prefer war-gaming (with miniatures and armies), as opposed to role-playing.
Games like Warhammer 40K, Star Wars Legion, Age of Sigmar, etc.
  • Do you guys enjoy the building and painting process? Do you prefer this side of the hobby, instead of playing?
  • For those that play, do you go out to local shops or tournament events?

I recently got into Warhammer 40K, due to the smash hit that was the Space Marines 2 game. I've steadily been diving into the lore, into rules and regulations, into building and painting my 2 armies (Salamanders, Tyranids) and I am having such a blast. Growing up, I couldn't have ever predicted myself getting into these kinds of games. I really love the tactical side of war-gaming, and often compare the feeling to fighting games, more or less!

Before posting, I just remembered that there are card games as well, I suppose they could be counted as tabletop games.
Games like Pokemon, YuGiOh, Magic the Gathering.
But I'll be honest, besides the few Pokemon decks I collected as a child, I never really got into card games. Even Poker, Blackjack...........I suffer severe skill issues when it comes to cards. Still.
- How many card players are here? Which games do you prefer?

I mostly play DnD. I've dabbled in Pathfinder, Werewolf the Forsaken, and World of Darkness. I prefer longer campaigns, but have played in quite a few holiday one-shots. Either online or in person doesn't matter, although I miss the sound of dice online. I've played mostly with friends and friends of friends. I've been game master for a game, but am more frequently a player.

I absolutely enjoy longer RPG campaigns; there's something special about developing characters over time. When I'm playing online, the right tools can make or break the experience. You should check out dice.onl—it makes rolling a D12 super straightforward and fair, which is great for keeping the game flowing without interruptions. Plus, it's always trustworthy, which is crucial for maintaining a good gaming atmosphere.
