I understand this conversation is being had by admins, but to not jump into the middle of that I'd like to respectfully discuss the issues with restricting spectate in EGO.
As we know, the server recently moved to an "anti-ghosting" policy whereby restrictions on how you spectate other players has come into effect. This presents other, more severe, issues in my estimation.
A.) Enjoyment of spec when dead - Counterstrike is an unforgiving game. You die quickly and you can wait minutes before you can play again. Being restricted to single views makes this time out of the game less enjoyable. This is a minor complaint, but holds true. EGO is not running competition like CAL/CEVO/ESEA/FPL, restricting to a single team causes boredom. It simply isn't needed, almost no one takes the game that seriously.
B.) More pressing - being able to spectate and record if a person is cheating is practically impossible without giving yourself away. I have currently uploaded a demo of a suspected cheater and it required me to 1.) join his team 2.) kill in console at the start of the round 3.) type in /watch name of player and then view them. Any half competent individual will catch onto the sequence of events and either leave or stop cheating so as to not be caught. This is a fundamental flaw in this system.
C.) I've been playing on this server for a few years now, and I've yet to hear anyone complain about ghosting until this change came in. I realize this isn't a "reason" for change, but it should be met with interest that I, a regular, have not heard these complaints once. I haven't been on EGO for as long as some, but I'd argue I'm one of the more common players at this point in time. Also, on a personal level, I can count the times on one hand over nearly 30 years that I can recall being upset about someone ghosting in a public server. I am not everyone, obviously, but that's how little it should matter to most of us.
D.) Since the update came into effect I've not heard a single person who has praised it. To the contrary, I've heard nothing but complaints about it (myself included). I can tell you with absolute honesty that the regulars I've spoken to inside, and outside, the server, do not agree with the change, particularly regarding point B. above. Further, most of them will not come to this forum simply to voice that complaint, because they feel they should be able to voice it within the server, directly to admins, and it should be heard. I do not want to start taking screenshots of the conversations I've had to prove this point, but believe me, I will absolutely do that if I need to further my point.
Thanks for your time, sorry for the novel.
