Yesterday I get a community popup asking to join the new quad core server.
Now The only classes I play are Pyro. i have been known from time to time to play soldier or engy, but never tried medic cause I was afraid of it bringing back old memorys of playing a cleric on EQ ( ya I know NERD ALERT ). Well the map was dustbowl which I never play and since there were just a few of us decided to take the time to learn and check out the different classes. Ok 5 hours later and Im still playing as the medic. It was like playing the game for the first time again and am really enjoying this class however as with pyro where I usually have a 2/1 kill/death ratio i.e. 60/30 60/38 this is not the case with the medic (remember it was my first day) My score would be something like

38 deaths
89 assist
15 kills

now i have seen some medic scores that the kill death ratio was much better

Playing as a medic I myself am more concerned with the "assist" score and helping my team stay alive than how many kills I get. Of course there are times in the game when you have to kill someone and not heal an such, but am wondering what in terms of my score should i be trying to achieve in order to best serve my team mates. I know there are scores of videos and guides that can help me in my quest to be better at this class (OMG did I just say quest..dang you EQ) but I would think that there are some medics out there that know of some specific videos or guides that can help me and i also wont have to troll through hundreds of videos to find them.
By the way a big apology to all the medics that i cursed at under my breath when playing pyro or other classes. Whats that saying "until you have walked a mile in another mans shoes..."

By the way the server seemed to be great. I want to suggest that others to donate to the cause. With all the servers you have, game giveaways, and events always going on its obvious a lot of hard work goes into all of this.

My pay pal will be donation will be arriving soon
thanks in advance for the help

Hey karbine. I play medic all the time. I was a little embarrassed by the low kill to death ratio when I first started, but it goes with the job. I figure if assists + kills is greater than deaths, I'm doing fine. But the overall satisfaction you get from helping the whole team is the main benefit to the class (IMO), not the numbers. It's a great feeling to save someone who is a second away from burning to death, or popping an uber and clearing the entire enemy courtyard in 2fort.

As far as tips, mainly just get experience. Try not to let the guy you're healing lead you to a suicide situation after your uber wears off, don't be afraid to fall back. And if you are in a relatively safe spot, buff up as many people as you can instead of just concentrating on one target. If you get a chance, team up with Expunged (if you can catch him when he doesn't already have 2-3 other medics on him!). You'll learn a lot just by sticking with him and letting him lead.

Here's a couple of forum entries you might want to check out:

Great
the one person I was hoping would respond did
thanks Gunning and ya I can imagine following expunged would help.
i would just rather follow him any way than be on the opposing team. My hard drive gets too full with all the " you were just killed by expunged" photos heheh.

Definately pay attention to the amount healed as well, that, plus assists, is how you best help your team out. A battle medic doesnt help very much. You get a point for every 600 health you heal, which you should EASILY double or triple per life.

CH chain! CH chain! :D

A few tips off the top of my head:

- The medigun lets you stay a good distance back from who you're healing. This gives you the advantage of being able to stay behind cover. There's no reason to be out in the open with everyone else if you don't have to.

- The medigun also will stay on the target provided you are within line of sight and not too far away. So, stay moving if you can.

- There's an option in the TF2 menu (Multiplayer > Advanced) that allows you to make it so the medigun will continue healing without holding the mouse button down. I've come to prefer it, but I'm sure there are Medics who like it the default way. I recommend giving it a try and seeing which you like better.

- Don't be afraid to use your weapons. Medics aren't going to wrack up huge kill numbers, but they can kill in a pinch. (Obviously there are certain classes they have better luck against than others.)

- You build up your ubercharge faster by healing someone who is injured (as opposed to healing someone who is at full health). However, if another medic is also healing that person, it charges at a slower rate.

- If no one is injured, use the medigun to buff people's health by 50%.

That's all I can think of for now, but I hope it helps!

Tattis knows.... the dude can flat out heal!

The only tip I can give you is to work with players on a regular basis. Once you have a few demo's, pyro's, etc. that you know, it will help you anticipate their style and tendencies. This will help you on when to pop the uber, when not to follow them, and what they are capable of so you don't cut off heals too early. All these things will help your stats in many ways.

Ive come to find that pyros make pretty good medics, a lot of the regular pyros play off medic when needed. A few things of advice:

1) Self preservation, of course do your part to save who you can but if you know its gonna hit the fan save yourself there is no sense in wasting all the buildup unused uber bar, and the longer you live the more people you can save.

2) Watch your back, you can turn around a complete 180 with the medic gun on your buddy and still heal, watch out for those dirty dirty spys.

3) "Just keep swimming" unless youre hunkered down with a buddy building an uber, keep moving around the more you move the harder target you make (much like pyro) and youll be a target for everyone as a medic, just keep on your toes. + when covering alot of ground you can help more people.

+ dustbowl is a good place to work on medic, each part gives a different expirence

++ get the blautsuager as soon as you can its a real lifesaver.

1. If there are team mates around you and you're not busying saving someones life, everybody should be overcharged on health.

2. You medigun has enough range to keep you out of danger most of the time.

3. Sometimes you can be more effective with your melee than with your medigun

( very often you come up on medic & soldier/pyro/demo combos. If you're with a competent soldier pyro or demo yourself you can usually overcharge them then axe the other medic if the enemy gun is not focusing on you. That way you can usually get out with both of you alive )
( Of course that doesnt mean everytime you see and enemy medic + attacker running at you that you get out your axe and go for the medic.)

If you decide to go in on a lost cause suicide run. You may as well burn your uber then whip out your axe and go ape crazy so that the enemy has 2 targets dealing damage instead of one. Since they will likely be focusing on your team mate you cacn usually take out 2-3 people before they take him down.

^^^^ Everyone up there said enough. When I read all that I was like "TMI" but mostly that is all good stuff. If you have any specific questions don't be afraid to ask me. I may know a few things about medicing. I will leave you with one thing though:

Ubersaw = Oktoberfest

(don't even try to make it make sense. Trust me, it does.)

Ps. Get into Warpath. (hint, hint)
