Suggestion for Caen

I have a suggestion for the Caen server.

Seeing that the map is SO big, we should have

** D/L map here www.mapDL.com ** in the description. That way the pubs will know where to d/l this map.

I know that would use up a lot of the description, but maybe it would get them to download the map first before trying to play.

I was on that server and seen a lot of pubs join, but never play or just leave because they did not have the map downloaded 1st and they give up downloading.

Also, is Fast download setup on that server?

I registered the domain name and would be happy to let ego use it.

I thought if there download link was in the description they may download the map 1st before trying to play.

Thank you shoe if you look on the front page news we have a link to download the map. Kendle setup a compressed installer to halp make the download go quicker.

I know about the download. I am talking about pubs that find the server in steam, connect and they leave becase the d/l takes so long.

I wish Valve would make a warning screen in the game like...

"The map you are entering is a custom map, click here to download the map"

Or something. I think pubs connect and the d/l takes so long they end up leaving.

Welcome to the ever-painful custom map struggle. The struggle is even more difficult when you introduce large maps. Many of you may remember dod_kolsch from the last inter-house scrim season, and it faced the same problem. The file was ENORMOUS.

Thus, you will, always and consistantly get the lazy people who won't wait 5 minutes to download the map. Welcome to our instant gratification world. The only solution we've found, running only customs mind you at the Kustom Kettle, is to simply (and you all know this!) PLAY. People will stay if people are actively playing. People need to get out of their comfort zone and just play the map... long enough to get pubbers in.

But, since it's a big map, just 3-4 people playing is boring. It'll take a dedicated effort to get people in... but once they are in, and have already downloaded the map, you've won the hardest part of the battle.

I totally agree with you. The server will die if people are not playing on it and Caen is a good enough map to have a 24/7 server.

I get in there, a few spec and nobody. What to do, spec as well? That don't help cause people come in and if nobody is playing they leave.

I was thinking, how could we get pubs to get the map faster, add a URL in the descript where they could get the map faster.

Newbies, not noobs, newbie, I mean people who have only played source, honestly do not know what Caen is. Us old timers know exactly what Caen is. It is one AWSOME map. On a full server Caen rocks. Getting the map on the pubs system is the battle here.
