Growing spy difficulty

I'm still a spy through and through. Nothing beats getting behind a group of people and letting loose the backstabs and saps. All it really takes is some common sense. How often will an engineer stand near a sentry with his shotgun out? How long is too long to do nothing? Where would the enemy be going? Get back to their spawn, and walk towards the frontlines. You don't have to stab the first guy you see. Try and find a situation where you can backstab 2, 3 or even 4 people. Get rid of heavy+medic combos. Kill snipers and demomen who are spamming grenades. You are going to die... a lot. But that's okay.

Also an overlooked strategy is this...

1. Get to enemy spawn.
2. Sap teleporter entrances.
3. As the engineers are coming back to fix their entrances, go and sap the sentries.
4. They will take their sentries in priority and go and fix them.
5. Wait in corner and as the engineer is going to fix his sentry, backstab him.
6. ???
7. PROFIT!!!!

(I had to do it.)

Ah, the spy. It's definitely my favorite class. If you know the map well and know the shortcuts around it, then that'll tremendously help. I do think luck plays in the class, but there's also skill. Getting your timing down and anticipating when to use that small bit of cloak to get around that guy turning the corner, then backstabbing is always wonderful. Or jumping to the sides, sticking to the wall, and inching behind the opposing team is also a thrill. IMO, it's a class that you gotta watch and anticipate every move your enemy makes which makes it oodles of fun lol.

The spy is my favourite class as well, seconded by Soldier.

When the Spy update comes I hope it is not a weapon upgrade but a class upgrade, say Milestone 1 is 30 second cloak, Milestone 2 is more health, etc... the spy class itself with knife/revolver is a good mix but some minor dev tweaks could alter it for the better.

I usually throw spy into the mix to stir up the other team, but I'm not really good at it. Spy is very nice to pick off that sniper that's been killing you, but my favorite strategy is to just go and sap thing to panic Engineers and Pyros. Usually my goal is not to get points, but to suck people off the front lines to "spycheck."

As an Engine, however, I've seen some incredibly bad spies. Like the spy "Demoman" that stood just a step or two away from my sentry gun and then started jumping up and down to get my attention. Had time to pull out the handgun and shoot him.

Or the guy running circles around the base screaming "Medic."

I would love the ability to shoot blanks, and maybe a flame retardant suit similar to the Pyro's would help blend in.

I have tons of respect for the players who do spy well. However, "spy checking" is so easy that people who "make a living" with Spy (not me) have a hard time.

Of course, the difficulty of actually getting in makes scoring anything in their base that much sweeter.

I'd be content with real health meters and a "random" Ubercharge level. That would make it a bit less suspicious.

Usually, though, my deaths come from doing something stupid. Like cloaking before putting on a costume and forgetting that I'm not wearing a costume and decloaking in their base, or something like that.
