Unable to Connect to Steam

When I boot anything up with Steam or just Steam in general I cannot connect. It allows me to start "in offline mode," which seems normal but the game will crash if I try to get into a server.
Everything else works. Help

I just had this problem on my Linux system (though my Windows system worked fine). I just guessed at the solution, but luckily it worked. Try this:

1) Stop Steam
2) Go to Program Files\Steam
3) Delete or rename the file ClientRegistry.blob
4) Start Steam and let it update

After that you should be good to go.

steam was down for a short period to day. When you tried to open your friends list or open steam did it say "steam computers are down right now" that is what happened to me. They came back online in about one hour thou.
