Mic problems

i've been told my mic sounds fine in vent, but when i go in-game its soft or not heard at all, i have my outbound all the way up, and i've tried with and without the boost on. is there anyway i can make it louder, or should i just get a new one?

I don't know how often this happens for you but, try playing without vent running and see if the problem persists. If you all ready do and it does persist through then try a couple of things.

Update the sound card drivers.

Or was it on board sound?

I don't think your mic is the problem since you sound fine over one application yet not the other, it sounds like a sound card problem. I'd suggest investing 50 bucks or so into a better sound card.

I'm having the same issue pretty much. I can get the mic to work in certain applications, but it randomly decides not to work at all in others. I was able to use it without issue in vent a few days ago while it would not work in TF2, but now it won't work in either one, but does work in Steam's mic test.

I suspect updating to Creative's latest drivers may have caused my problems, I'll let you know if rolling back helps.

I'm using a SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS on Windows XP, using the recently updated drivers (2.18.0001) by the way.
