What is a Punk?

I've played on your server quite a bit. I come there because of the zero tolerance for the immature. Its a good crew and a fun server.

However, there are other ways to define a punk. Cussing, Mic spamming and Racist remarks aren't the only measure of a punk.

We played a series where red team greatly outclassed blue team. I don't mind that I like a challenge. Two long rounds we played and we got stomped both times. No problem, win some, lose some.

Then comes the third game and everyone can tell where the skilled players are. Next thing I know the sever I enjoy playing on became an unwelcome place. There were clan members spawn camping (heavy and medic) for my spawn, and the other red were making cap/take cycle runs and the game was over in seconds.

Like I said, I don't mind losing, I'm not that good of a player. But I come here for a mature environment and that wasn't very mature. Not only did no red player offer to change teams to even up the skill distribution, but they exploited it.

I'm not mentioning names here and I may get flamed for simply pointing it out, but the level of maturity I have encountered so far on your server gives me the confidence to come here and mention this and hope it is taken in the proper light.

Thanks for letting me play on your server, and I hope after I have taken a break for a while that when I return "Sportsmanship" will be another way your clan separates itself from the punks.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. A few things:

1. There is no such thing as spawncamping on most maps (Except Orange >_>), but there is Spawncontrolling. Spawn camping is when a player spawns, and gets instantly killed, without any time to build an uber. Spawn controlling is when the opposing team camps the entrances of your spawn. This is a legit strategy.

2. The unbalaned teams will rarely ever happen again, due to an update to Sourcemod, causing a bevy of new tools to be given to us admins.

I don't disagree. When it's a close game and you are doing everything you can to squeak out a cap. Do what you have to do.

When it's already a blowout, it might be a legit strategy, but it's no longer good sportsmanship.

In BF2, where I am a bit better player. I believe spawn camping is also a legit strategy (even uncaps). But if my team is already clobbering them. It's time to back off and give them a chance.

Like the heavy that was camping the spawn told me when I asked him about it, "It's only a game."

That's true, it is bad sportsmanship. I have personally never been in a game when the other team is controlling our spawn to that extent. If that happens, I usually build up an uber and push them back.
Like in every other game, be it online or in real life, there will be players that don't always stick to the rules.
Here at Edge Gamers, we try to prevent as many of those players from disrupting other people's experience.

I would have to agree that spawn camping or "spawn controlling" is pretty weak...

I've been spawn-controlled, and I never really had a problem with it. First, no one forces you to leave spawn and die. Second, no one forces you to continue in that weak easily-killed class. If you find yourself in this situation, here's a hint - switch to a good combat class like soldier until you get rid of them, and continually regenerate yourself at resupply cabinet. Third, a team gets spawn-camped not because the skill balance is unequal, but rather the team members make personal (and poor) choices in picking their class. A team with no medics and a ton of spies/snipers is going to get spawn-controlled, and I don't have a problem with that. Learn the lesson, move on.

I don't know, but "spawn controlling" isn't usually that hard to deal with; if it was a heavy outside, a multitude of pyroes would rush out to burn him. If it was a demo, someone would run out as a sacrifice to the stickybombs, and then pyroes would jump in to burn him. Those are the two biggest threats. Otherwise, I do agree that some people might get on your nerves and either join the winning team if possible, go to spectator and joining the winning team, or a player on the winning side not offering to switch. More eGO members should recognize when a certain side is being steamrolled, and should join the losing side if possible

I dont think its bad sportsmanship.

All it takes is one uberdemo to get rid of the engineers, then everyone can rush.

I don't think spawn controlling is a bad thing. And yes I have been on a team where we have been steamrolled before... multiple times in a row. It is a great feeling to then work more closely together and push back and take control!
The best thing to do when you get frustrated like that is to take a break then play later.

What map was it? Sounds like Turbine.

You can spawncontrol any map, I've done it. As far as unfair teams goes, I have seen plenty of times where a player switches sides to even things out. IN my experience on Warpath, not only do the admins try to team switch to help the falling team but the regular pups switch around as well.

This tends to happen in toyfort alot but then again you kinda have to to cap the last point, but anyhow a good uber or 2 can disrupt it, or even 1 uber and everyone rushing out behind it can also rule.

I see your point about spawn controlling, I honestly do. It's very frustrating to die right out of spawn and to try to do something about it while the rest of your team does who knows what. However, I see it less as poor sportsmanship on the part of the team controlling the spawn, and more as poor teamwork on the behalf of the team being controlled. Even with a semi full server (say 20 players), there are 10 players that could easily break through most control situations, even without uber, if they coordinate and work together. Of course, this does rely on the cooperation of at least the majority of the team, and that can be hard to achieve.
If after a long time your team can't pull together (say several rounds) and you are repeatedly getting beaten back, please mention it to an admin, and they can, using their judgment of course, attempt to change things up.
Thanks for playing on our servers, and I hope to see you in-game! :D

To address the team unbalance issue, Admins currently have no power to move other people to other teams, although we are soon getting a mod which allows us to scramble the teams up

A mod that lets you guys scramble things up sounds great. It would definitely add another dimension to the game.

Not quite true - eGO does, stating that sitting in your spawn is grounds for getting kicked. Pretty sure they're talking about the extended AFK'd or chat spammers, tho'.

Getting spawn camped is frustrating, but I agree there's methods to countering it. Usually it's just another sign of getting dominated, although I've often gone on crazy suicide runs down an enemy's spawn (my Medic and an assault guy) to either distract them, harass them, or just because it's wild crazy fun. The campers are at a great disadvantage, usually.

Now you're just looking for a loophole. Use your best judgement. If a player is sitting in spawn firing his gun at the ground for the sole purpose of getting an achievement, that is not okay. If your attempting to break out of spawn by shattering the opposing teams defense, that's okay.

If a team spawn controlls without capping a point, it's immature and stupid. Point farming is pointless (excuse the pun). But if a team spawncontrols only so they can get the cap, it's a legit tactic.
