Usain Bolt

Ehh, he owned the competition and set World records while doing so, and as a 2nd generation Jamaican, it's good to see it.

However, I'm not exactly a huge fan of showboating, like he did in the 100m. I don't really have a problem with it after the race is done and you know you have won. What if karma shows up and your leg gives in? Although I wish this on no one, it's something to think about.

There was also an article I read that I heard he slowed down near the end because of something about him getting a bonus every time he beats the WR, so in order to beat it again, he slowed down to make it easier next time around...wtf?

It looks like he learned a lesson (to some degree) in the 200m, as it wasn't as bad, and he destroyed the old record still. I dunno, but it's good to see.

Never seen such domination by a runner both the 100 & 200m being blowouts like that with new records. I sincerely hope this guy is for real and isn't being boosted by anything artificial. It amazes me what we can train our bodies to do!

Really i would celebrate like that cause i just won 100m and i beat the world record....

come on that is pretty big.

Are you serious? No respect? He only showboated in the 100m because he was ahead by a few body lengths. He said himself "I am not here at the Olympics to set records, I am here to win gold medals and bring glory to my country. I can go set world records on my own time, but this is my country's time, and I want the world to see our greatness". He brought great entertainment to a spectacular race that certainly showed his pride for his country. How can someone be so selfish to say that he is being disrespectful to the Olympics by showboating? It is a contest to see who the best athletes in the world are, and if he wins gold, and especially if he sets a world record, who is anyone to criticize him for showboating? The only difference would be a faster time. It takes a long time to prepare for the Olympics and a LOT of hard work. How dare someone try to take away his glory personal enjoyment that he worked tirelessly for by saying "you should have kept sprinting and set a higher world record" for the sake of someone simply wanting to see a faster time on a piece of paper or on a webpage.

The guy reminds me a LOT of Deon Sanders. He is extremely fast and has a little fun by showboating just a little bit, but completely backs it up with pure talent and hard work. People like this are what bring life to sports, and they are the ones that people remember the most. Hats of to Usain Bolt.
exactly. end of story

The Olympics are not some joke, these are serious games and call for a little more serious attitudes.

Do you not get enough enjoyment out of the Olympics

Hmmmm, The Olympics are for enjoyment they aren't serious and you need to evaluate your fun gland if you think that it is so serious. All the news stations, radio stations, comedy shows and such making fun of the olympics must be a bunch of jerks. Man people who make funny flash animations of Michael Phelps are jerks. Everyone is a bunch of jerks for not taking the olympics seriously... You need to really take a bit of a reevaluation on your outlook on the olympics.

War = Serious, Famine = Serious, Genocide = Serious, Olympics = Fun...

Sports are invented for fun, he is celebrating his victory and having fun... You don't play a game of basketball to be serious, you play a game of basketball to have fun or you aren't doing it right. I totally agree with Thatguy, how dare you try to take his moment of glory from him. I do recall Phelps beating his chest and yelling YES! when he won. Anyone who wins a gold metal deserves that moment of saying, yes im the best, I worked hard for this and it has all payed off.

Yeah I've heard that too, everytime he beats a WR his sponsors give him tons of money.

See you're getting it all wrong. I have NOTHING against celebration. You mentioned all of these things that occur outside of the olympics. I am clearly stating my opinion against him celebrating WHILE he was still running. That is what I'm arguing.

The news occurs outside of the olympics, Phelps was done swimming when he celebrated, all of the flash animations were done on the internet, not the olympics. You don't understand my point clearly.

And I need to reevaluate my fun gland? I'm 17 and in high school, I highly doubt anything needs to be fixed about my 'fun gland.'

Of course the Olympics are for enjoyment, or else nobody would watch it. But the actual competition of the Olympics is serious, or why would they go through the thousands of procedures they go through to keep it fair? If it's just some joke, then why would times matter, why would medals matter?

Is that why the play fun songs during the volleyball? I just don't see why you think he shouldn't have fun during the olympics. It is in my opinion what all atheletes should do.

Lol you guys don't understand where I'm coming from here. I'll say it again, I'm talking exclusively about his celebratory arm and chest pumping during the race. I love watching athletes celebrate, they totally deserve it. They can run around and scream, it's awesome, they deserve it. But please just give me one good reason he has to do it mid-race. That is what I'm getting at. I'm not saying the Olympics should ban smiling, I'm just saying that when it comes to the actual event, the athlete should always give his best.

Why should he do it during the race?
Because he can.

He can run backwards if he wants, as long as he wins whats the problem?
As far as i see it, his goal is winning, not setting records.
If he wants to dance while achieving that goal, let him do it.

hmmm...seems the IOC agrees with some of you on Usain's little show...

Those words are genious right there. I just feel that all of it is really disrespectful towards his other competitors. I don't think we should just "let him do what he wants because he's some type of running God." No, that's how ego's get started. Terrell Owens, Ocho-Cinco and many others. You don't just let them do what they want.

Ooh look at me, I'm the most important person in the world because I can run fast. No.

the olympics is taken too seriously.

This.

The world needs to lighten up and stop taking everything so damn seriously, this guy is doing what he enjoys, why should he have to act like a damned robot till he's done?

It's a sport for crying out loud.
